Wild Card Games Weekend – January 2019

The race to Super Bowl LIII at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia starts here, as eight teams battle it out on NFL Wild Card weekend. Houston Texans face Indianapolis Colts while Baltimore Ravens square off against Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC division. As for the NFC, Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks do battle, and Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles meet. New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints await in the Divisional playoffs.

Houston Texans v Indianapolis Colts – Indianapolis Colts Win

On Saturday, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts meet at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. All four Wild Card matches are expected to be close, but the hosts are the slight 5/6 favourites in this one. The Texans won the AFC South last year, winning 11 of their 16 regular season matches. As for the Colts, they finished runners-up, picking up 10 wins and six losses along the way. Indianapolis have an excellent recent record over Houston, winning five of the last six at the NRG Stadium. Last year, Houston won 37-34 at the Lucas Oil Stadium before Indianapolis’ 24-21 victory in Texas just under a month ago. Both games were tight, and we’re expecting another close one on Saturday. Back the Colts to win in Houston again at evens.

Baltimore Ravens v Los Angeles Chargers – Baltimore Ravens HT/FT

The other AFC Wild Card game takes place at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, as Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers go head-to-head. Baltimore ended their regular campaign with 10 wins and six defeats in AFC North. Meanwhile, Los Angeles finished second behind Kansas City Chiefs in AFC West. When the pair met back in December, Lamar Jackson inspired the Ravens to a 22-10 victory over the Chargers at the StubHub Centre. After such a fine display in Carson a few days before Christmas, the AFC North champions will back themselves to see off LA in Baltimore at the weekend. Take a punt on the home team to be winning at half time and full time at 5/4.

Chicago Bears v Philadelphia Eagles – Chicago Bears Win

At Soldier Field in Chicago Illinois this weekend, Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles battle it out for a place in the Divisional playoffs in an NFC Wild Card game. The winners of this one will take on the LA Rams at the Angeles Memorial Coliseum on January 12th. The Bears had a fine 2018, topping NFC North with an impressive 12 wins to their name. Doug Pederson’s Eagles, meanwhile, had a 9-7 record in NFC East. When the two last met, Pederson’s Philadelphia thumped John Fox’s Chicago 31-3 at Lincoln Financial Field in November 2017. However, we fancy the Bears to get their revenge in Illinois on Sunday. Chicago are priced at just 2/5 to pick up the win here.

Dallas Cowboys v Seattle Seahawks – Dallas Cowboys to Win by 1-6 Points

Jason Garrett’s Dallas Cowboys and Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks go head-to-head at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in the other NFC Wild Card playoff on Sunday. At CenturyLink Field back in September, Seattle were too strong on home soil, beating Dallas 24-13. Both sides had a 10-6 record in the regular season, with the Cowboys finishing first in NFC East while the Seahawks finished behind the Rams in the NFC West. Dallas head into this one as the 10/13 favourites, with Seattle available at 11/10. This promises to be another close Wild Card playoff matchup, but we can see the hosts nicking it in Texas. Back Dallas to win by 1-6 points at 10/3.

The NFL (National Football League) is the biggest, most popular and highest earning league in the sport of American football (also called gridiron or, in North America, just plain “football”). With stars who go from college football to become NFL millionaires over night after the draft, and with loads of highly competitive and entertaining games through the season (which runs from September to late January / early February when the Super Bowl takes place) there are plenty of betting opportunities.

Betting on the NFL is a great way to make an entertaining sport even more exciting. There are a huge range of markets to bet on and, with 256 games in the regular season alone, there are always matches from which you can try to turn a profit.

Because of the way the draft system works in the NFL – that is, the worst teams get the first picks of the college players for the following season – the sport is kept highly competitive and as such no team has won back to back Super Bowls since the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005. The Seattle Seahawks won the 2014 Super Bowl in New Jersey, hammering the Denver Broncos 43-8.
