The 2013 Major League Baseball season got under way on the 31st March and is due to come to an exciting head with the World Series in late September after many, many games! As many MBL fans will attest, baseball is a great sport for betting as the teams play such a huge number of matches you are never short of something on which to have a bet and we have all the best betting odds right here.
Last season the San Francisco Giants easily defeated the Detroit Tigers in the World Series to claim their seventh title, their previous success being just two years earlier in 2010. The team they beat are currently at the head of the betting odds, priced at around 9/1 but this early in the season there are still eight sides priced between 9/1 and 16/1 and one or two others still in with a very real chance.
The LA Dodgers are priced at 15/1 at present and with a payroll of $217m nobody can question their financial commitment to delivering a first Series since 1988. However, many can – and are – questioning if it is possible to blend such an all-star set of players (and accompanying egos!) into a winning unit and at the moment it looks like the answer may be a resounding no.
We think the value pick could well be the defending champions at around the same odds in the betting. They didn’t invest heavily in the close season but trusted in the squad that delivered the glory in 2012. That rarely works in MLB but the Giants have such a good blend of experience and youth and an excellent management team and they’ve proved they know what it takes.
