Champions League Qualifiers Betting Odds - Play-off round 2017-18

There’s just one more round of qualifying matches left to play in the Champions League, with the biggest leagues around Europe being represented. Liverpool are the Premier League’s sole side in at this stage, and they’ve been handed a tough trip to Hoffenheim in one of the picks of the round. Ahead of the midweek action, we’ve got betting tips and odds comparison covering some of these huge clashes.

Liverpool value against Bundesliga opposition

Facing a Bundesliga side this early in the Champions League isn’t what Liverpool would have wanted, but they should progress from this tie. They’re up against a Hoffenheim side who were shock European contenders, who ended up taking a top four spot under 29-year-old boss Julien Nagelsmann.

Having arrived at the top level of German football, there was almost an inevitable feeling that Bayern Munich would step in. They signed Sebastian Rudy and Niklas Sule this summer, which has weakened Hoffenheim’s defence somewhat. Up against an improved Liverpool attack, the Germans are likely to struggle.

Signing Mo Salah has really added to Liverpool’s attacking prospects, and their pace should burn through Hoffenheim on the counter. Even the recent revelations about Philippe Coutinho shouldn’t stop the Reds, and we think they’re great value to win here at 7/5 with Coral. Given Liverpool’s defence record last term, it might also be worth backing them to win and concede, with an away win and BTTS priced at 3/1 with Sky Bet.

Back a quiet night in Glasgow on Wednesday

Celtic needed a 1-0 win at Rosenborg in the last round to make it through to this stage, following a 0-0 in Glasgow. The stakes are only getting bigger the further they go, and the Bhoys know they need to get a slice of that Champions League revenue. Brendan Rodgers must be expected to make it through against Astana, but they’re going to struggle with the second leg in Kazakhstan.

The Bhoys need to keep things tight here, they can’t afford an away goal going in against them. Having worked for that 1-0 aggregate win in the last round, we don’t see Celtic suddenly opening up here. This tie is going to be a real battle between these two, and the defences are likely to come out on top. That has us backing under 2.5 goals in this one at 5/6 with BetVictor.

If anyone is going to break the deadlock in this clash, it’s likely to be the hosts. They are deserved favourites, although we’re not going to be backing them at around 1/2 which feels a little too short. Instead we’re backing a Celtic win and under 2.5 goals in the match, basically either a 1-0 or 2-0 home win. That one is priced at 21/10 with Ladbrokes, which we think is huge. Given that both selections are odds on separately, they seem great value when bundled together.

Huge value BTTS gets in Turkey and Italy

Two other Champions League ties which catch our eye are the ones involving Italian and Spanish sides. Sevilla travel to Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday night, making the always difficult trip to Turkey. The hosts are lining up with Emmanuel Adebayor in their front-line, with the Togo international making his traditional red-hot start with a new club.

With Adebayor Basaksehir managed to shock Turkey and leap into the top two, and we think they’ll continue the surprises in the Champions League. While they may not knock Sevilla out, the Spanish side were sucker-punched by Leicester last season. Given that defeat, we think the Turkish side will grab a goal here.

However, Sevilla’s experience should get them through. The Andalusians have enough talent up top to score here, so both teams to score is great value at 4/5 with Bet365.

We also expect to see goals when Nice take on Napoli on Wednesday. The French side were another shock side to seal a Champions League place, while they have a maverick forward of their own, Mario Balotelli has been joined by Wesley Sneijder in the south of France, so Napoli need to watch out here.

The Italians have an excellent attacking set-up, they’re just questionable at the back. They’ve done little to fix that situation this summer, and we expect Nice to grab a goal, as they did in both legs of their last round tie with Ajax.

This game could well be the pick of the round, and we expect so see plenty of goals when they meet at the San Paolo. You can back over 2.5 goals and BTTS in this one at 13/10 with Coral, which looks like a great bet. Nice had an excellent season in Ligue 1 which saw them bag plenty of goals, and they should exploit this Napoli defence.

Napoli should be worried about recent Italian failures in this competition, which has saw six of the last seven Serie A sides to enter at this point eliminated. Backing Nice to qualify looks like great value at 5/2 with 888Sport. They should fancy their chances given that awful run for Italian sides, and they’ll have a great chance if they get an away goal – like we expect.
