Europa League Qualifying: Betting Tips and Odds for 2017-18 Playoffs

Everton are hoping to book a place in the group stage of the Europa League, as they kick off their play-off tie with Hajduk Split. They’re joined in this round by top European sides like AC Milan and Marseille, so there are plenty of games to keep an eye on this week. Ahead of Thursday’s action, we have betting tips and odds comparison to help you pick out your Europa League bets. With plenty of matches to assess, it’s certainly worth a couple of punts on this week’s European ties.

Expect goals to be in short supply at Goodison

Everton’s transfer business this summer has been widely celebrated. However, they’re busy trying to strengthen their midfield, while there’s a gaping hole up front. They’ve signed Wayne Rooney and intend to play him there, while Sandro seems like a smart addition. However, their two 1-0 wins over Ruzomberok in the last round suggest that Everton have scoring problems up front.

Their defensive additions this summer give Ronald Koeman a brilliant backline to work with, so that’s a bonus. However, that could lead to a few too many low scoring matches at Goodison this season. They should create chances, but we doubt they’ll put too many away.

We don’t see too many goals in this clash, as Hajduk Split aren’t likely to break through this strong Everton defence. We see a low scoring win for the hosts, and there’s plenty of value in backing against goals here. You can back under 2.5 goals in the game at 23/20 with Betfair, which seems like excellent value. On top of that, we suggest going with Everton to score fewer than two goals, with under 1.5 home goals priced at 15/8 with BetVictor.

To round off our Everton versus Hakduk Split predictions, we’re going for a 1-0 win for the Toffees. That one can be backed at 6/1 with Betfair, which seems like a great price given it landed in their last two European games.

Great value on Marseille to suffer an upset

Marseille have kicked off the new season in great shape, winning their opening Ligue 1 match of the campaign 3-0 against Dijon. The French side have put together a great array of attacking midfielders, and they’re expected to put on a show as they challenge for a top three spot in the league this term. While they have Champions League football on their mind right now, they need to switch focus to the Europa this week for a trip to Domzale.

The Slovenian side are probably best known for their win over West Ham last summer, as they beat the Hammers 2-1. They pack a punch going forward, and they’ll relish a clash with this Marseille side who could have their attention elsewhere. We think both teams to score is a great bet in this game, which can be backed at 5/6 with Betfred.

However, the form of the hosts suggests that there’s even more value to be found on this one. Domzale have won six straight Europa League games at home, which makes them a trick test for the Ligue 1 side. They stepped up to knock out Bundesliga side Freiburg last time out, can they pull off another shock here?

Having won two of their last eight away in this competition, Marseille are at risk of an upset this week.

Given their recent form at home, Domzale look like a huge price to win at 6/1 with 888Sport. Given that we’ve also tipped BTTS, we think it’s worth going for a low stake on Domzale to win and both teams to score, which can be backed at a giant 11/1 with Sky Bet, which is a huge price for something that has landed in the four of the home side’s last six matches at home in this competiton.

Can Milan’s comeback continue?

One of the big stories of the summer has been at the San Siro, as AC Milan have been trying to re-establish themselves in Europe. Their big spending ways have caused waves, but there have been some issues at the club too. Their deals for Lucas Biglia and Leonardo Bonucci were held up because they hadn’t paid up the transfer fee, keeping both out of their last Europa League tie.

The pair should be involved when Milan face Shkendija 79, with the Serie A outfit massive favourites to go through. Finding value on such a one-sided game isn’t easy, but we do like the look of a home win to nil. That one is priced at 4/7 with Bet365, and it’s worth backing even at that price.

Milan were able to keep a clean sheet home and away in the previous round, and now they’ve added Bonucci. That’s only going to benefit them, and the Italian international should help AC ease in to the next round. We can’t see anything but a simple win for Milan, so we’re backing the win to nil after their great business this summer.

Another tie to keep an eye on is in Cyprus, where Apollon Limassol are taking on FC Midtjylland. They’re hardly household names, but the visitors are always involved in high scoring matches. They’ve played six Europa League games this summer, and all of them have seen both teams score. There’s also not been a single 1-1 in there, with at least five goals being scored in all but one of those games.

We expect Midtylland to keep that form up against Apollon this week, so we’re certainly going to be backing over 2.5 goals and both teams to score in this one. That bet is really well priced at 6/5 with Coral going in to this tie, and that’s a price you should be taking advantage of. Having landed in every game for the visitors so far, we can’t see a low scoring match when these two meet on Thursday.
