The 2016 PDC World Darts Championship gets underway on 17th December 2015 with the final scheduled to take place on 3rd January 2016. With £1.5m up for grabs in prize money and the winner taking home a cool £300,000, there is much more than just glory and honour to play for at Alexandra Palace. Read on as we preview next year’s (or this year’s, depending on your point of view!) PDC World Championship and offer up our outright winner betting tips, predictions and live odds comparison.

Our live odds comparison, offered on both the outright betting and the individual matches, is the quickest and easiest way to get the best odds on whoever you fancy will be crowned king at Ally Pally. Don’t accept low odds or waste time checking lots of different bookies, just get the best odds in the quickest time with our brilliant odds comparison. Now, to those betting tips…

Unsurprisingly the outright winner market is headed by Dutch maestro Michael van Gerwen. The world number one is available at best betting odds of 5/4 with Sky Bet and he will be desperate to avenge his surprise semi final defeat to Gary Anderson in last year’s PDC event.

The Flying Scotsman is available at odds of 7/1 with Bet365 and is third favourite, with the legendary Phil Taylor sandwiched between those two. “The Power”, last year’s runner-up, is priced at best betting odds of 9/2 with Unibet in the outright market. He is sure to have many followers as he looks to claim an amazing 15th PDC World Championship title to go along with the two he has in the BDO version of the event.

Beyond those three there is a serious jump in the odds, with fourth favourite Adrian Lewis, the champion in 2011 and 2012, priced at odds of 20/1 with Paddy Power and James Wade at 25/1 with Coral. The bookies, it seems, are predicting a win for one of the big three and we have to agree.

MVG is very much the already-risen star of the PDC but to really cement his status he needs to add to his single PDC World Championship, won in 2014. He, like Anderson, has appeared in two finals, with both players winning one and losing the other. Odds of 5/4 may seem short but Mighty Mike has the game to back it up and he just has to be our tip for glory early next year.

The PDC World Championship has only been around since 1994, with the PDC being created following a split from the BDO, the original governing body, a couple of years earlier. There is no doubt that the PDC is the highest calibre of darts, with the scoring averages for the best players and the Championship overall far outstripping those of the BDO World Championship.

Prize money at the PDC is also a lot bigger and has grown massively in the last 10 years or so as increased exposure on Sky has led to greater revenues. In 1995 “The Power” won his first PDC title and took home just £12,000. Difficult to believe though it may be, he also won 10 of the next 11 PDC World Darts Championships, taking home a far more impressive £100,000 in 2006.

As mentioned, whoever wins in 2016 will earn three times that amount and our prediction is the cash will be heading to Holland. MVG has made more nine-dart finishes in the World Championship than any other player, despite being just 26 (Taylor is 55!) and at his very best he has taken the game to a new level. We expect him to shine at Ally Pally and he looks a very safe bet to claim a second World Championship.
