Whichever team lands a victory in this game will regard this as a big statement win at an early stage of the season. When the teams met at a similar stage in the previous campaign, Liverpool pulled off a dramatic 2-1 win at Anfield. Later on in the season, we saw the Reds score a victory at St James’ Park including an expert finish from Darwin Nunez.

However, it’s Newcastle who are warm favourites to land some kind of revenge in this encounter. The Magpies are looking in good nick, with Alexander Isak having bagged a brace against Aston Villa and it appears that the Swede is the first-choice striker, with Sandro Tonali aiming to push this side on to the next level.

Anthony Gordon has also enjoyed a new lease of life and he’s started both games. The former Everton man would dearly love to engineer a win over a Liverpool side who haven’t yet started with Darwin Nunez, with Diogo Jota preferred in the central role and the former Wolves man was on the scoresheet against the Cherries.

Luis Diaz has scored in consecutive games for the Reds and the Colombian could be a livewire here, although the Liverpool rebuild might take some time and there are question marks over Cody Gakpo operating in a central midfield position. We think a Newcastle win and both teams to score could be the best way forward here.
