Chile and Argentina are set to meet in the Copa America group stage, less than a year after they met in the final. This special edition of the Copa is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the tournament. It took 99 years for Chile to be crowned South American champions, can they do it for a second time in just 12 months? Read on for our betting preview of Copa America Group D, complete with odds comparison, analysis and betting tips.

Chile had home advantage spurring them on a year ago. They saw off Argentina on penalties in the final, giving them a historic victory. While the Chileans have a fantastic team, questions will be asked of their chances of winning the tournament this year. This summer will tell us if they needed home support to land success, or if they’re just a very talented team.

Argentina are undoubtedly a very talented side themselves, and they come in to the tournament as 5/2 favourites with Pinnacle in the outright winner betting. Any team who packs Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi among their forwards is always going to be a contender. But, can this fantastic group of Argentine players land a major trophy this summer?

This group is probably the tightest of all, with Chile and Argentina going head to head for top spot. Few are giving Panama and Bolivia a chance of making it out of this group, and that’s completely understandable. The top two here is pretty much sorted already, the only question is the order.

According to the men that set the odds, Argentina will finish on top. They are priced at 4/7 with Unibet to win the group. Sky Bet have Chile priced at odds of 7/4 to win it, while Bet365 have Panama at 20/1 and Bolivia out at huge betting odds of 33/1. There doesn’t seem to be too much value within the group betting, so it’s probably better to look at the clash between the big two in Group D.

The opening game in this group sees a repeat of the last final, with Argentina meeting Chile on June 7th . The holders are massive underdogs for the clash, with Bet365 pricing them out at best odds of 7/2 for the victory, as shown in our live odds comparison. Betfair have Argentina at 9/10 to take the three points in their opening game, while they’ve priced the draw up at 5/2.

We’re tipping Argentina to take revenge on Chile here, as it seems better to back them in their opener than to go for them topping the group. Getting Lionel Messi and co. at just under evens is a great price. On top of that, when we get repeats of international finals, they often tend to shift the other way. The meeting between the Netherlands and Spain in Brazil in 2014 being a famous example.

Bolivia actually met Chile in the Copa America last year, and the hosts recorded a 5-0 win on their way to topping Group A. But, Bolivia had a pretty good tournament outside of that. They picked up four points in their other two games on route to taking second place. They’re not fancied to see off Panama, but we’re backing the Bolivians to win their opening game at very good odds.

Our other bet for the opening round in Group D is a Bolivia win, which is 7/3 with Pinnacle – and again you can get those odds via our odds comparison. We’d expect Panama to finish bottom of this group, and they’d be pretty close to that if they lose this first game. Neither team stands much chance in their last two matches, but we see Bolivia taking something from their first clash.

Outside of that, we’re also going to back Argentina to go all the way this summer. They’ve lost a final for the last two years, having made the World Cup final in 2014. This great generation of players needs a tournament success, and we think this is it. With their main stars out in force, this is a great chance for the Argentines to lift some silverware.

We’re going with international success for Lionel Messi, backing them to win at 5/2 with Pinnacle.

There doesn’t seem to be a team in the competition that’s capable of threatening Argentina at their best. If they perform, then they should be celebrating in New Jersey come late June and if you back them at those odds, you’ll be celebrating too.

No matter who you’ve decided to back for the Copa America, you should be checking out our live odds comparison. It gives you the best available odds on a huge number of markets, ensuring you find the best price possible for whatever you fancy backing. From latest match odds to the current tournament winner betting, our odds comparison could save you some time, and make sure your returns are as big as possible when you land those lovely winners.
