Borussia Dortmund were handed a difficult Champions League qualifying group which included Paris Saint-Germain, Milan and Newcastle United. However, they were able to come through this section unscathed and it was a fairly comfortable 3-1 aggregate win over PSV to book their place in the last eight of the competition.

Although Edin Terzic’s side are one of the betting outsiders to win this season’s competition, they will be fairly pleased at the prospect of avoiding the difficult half of the draw, with Dortmund having the chance to play Atletico Madrid before a potential semi-final encounter against Paris Saint-Germain or Barcelona.

The prospect of facing PSG will hold no fear after meeting the same team in the Champions League group stage, although we might instead get an all-Spanish semi-final if Atleti go through and line up against Barcelona. There is plenty of intrigue although much comes down to this first leg encounter at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Many will feel as though Atletico Madrid are a good bet to win the game considering that they have very strong home form and stats of 13-1-1 are very impressive, although there was a recent 3-0 reverse at home to Barcelona which might have dented the confidence of Diego Simeone’s team.
