The 54th Super Bowl is fast approaching, with two teams left standing after the 2019/20 NFL season has nearly run its course. On Sunday 2 February, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will clash for one of the biggest prizes in sport across the planet.

The Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens will play host to this spectacle, with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira booked in to provide the half-time entertainment although there should be even more excitement on the actual pitch considering that these teams have made it to the final by playing attacking football.

We’re really excited about the prospect of this showdown, not least because New England Patriots are nowhere to be seen, with this article looking at the most popular betting markets in more detail.

Game Spread

The Spread is where customers can bet on a two-way market depending on whether they want to go with the match favourite with a negative handicap or the outsider with a positive one.

Right now you can back the Chiefs 10/11 with a -1.5 point handicap and that means any victory by two points or more will see you making a profit with this wager.

The bookmakers clearly have an issue weighing up which of these teams is likely to come out on top, with Andy Reid’s side given the edge and that is partly down to the fact that they have such a wonderful quarter back among their ranks.

Kansas City really do have a gem in Patrick Mahomes who can just as easily run it over himself as make a touchdown-winning pass.

Incredibly, this team found themselves 24-0 down against Houston Texans during their Divisional Round match although their immense scoring ability saw them rally to come back and take the lead at 28-24.

Ultimately, they ended up winning that match by a 20-point margin and it’s clear they will have no issues at Miami Gardens should they fall behind again.

This victory was then followed up by more slender triumph in the AFC Championship Game although they were more in control of their own destiny when beating the Tennessee Titans and will be confident of one final success.

However, San Francisco can be backed at 10/11 with a +1.5 start on the Spread and there’s an advantage to this bet by virtue of the fact that the 49-ers could lose by a single point and still actually win you a profit.

Kyle Shanahan’s side actually boast a better win ratio this season considering that they have claimed thirteen victories in sixteen attempts, with Jimmy Garofolo as the inexperienced quarter back who is hoping to produce the goods on the biggest possible stage.

San Fran enjoyed a fairly comfortable win over Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round where they edged out their opponents by a 17-point margin and they also produced a storming performance to win the next match.

Many thought the NFC Championship game against Green Bay Packers would be a close encounter, although the 49-ers were actually 27-0 ahead at half-time and relied hugely on their running game throughout the contest which is a sign of things to come.

Points Total

It comes as little surprise that the bookmakers are expecting plenty of points to be scored during this particular renewal of the Super Bowl. After all, we have two highly offensive teams who are surely not going to deviate from their previous game plans which is to run the ball wherever possible.

As it stands, the majority of bookmakers have the Points Line at around 54 so you can choose to bet Under / Over this amount and you will typically get around 10/11 betting either side of the line.

Considering that both teams’ matches yielded over 54 points during their respective Championship semi-final games, one might think that an “Overs” bet should be the way forward here.

However, we should bear in mind that we’re talking about a Super Bowl here and the stakes could not be higher. There could be an increasing number of errors and also the prospect of a team in the lead looking to play a more defensive game.

On the flip side, the fact that the Chiefs were able to score an incredible 51 points against Houston makes us a little nervous when it comes to going under that points line and we think it could be very high-scoring.

Money Line

The Money Line is a nice and simple bet which is actually pretty relevant on this occasion. The bottom line is picking the team who is going to win the match and the Kansas City Chiefs are currently trading at 4/5 with most bookmakers.

We personally feel as though this is a big price considering that they have been so convincing and have the best quarter back in North America right now, although there will be plenty ready to put a case forward for the so-called underdogs.

If you want to double your money, San Francisco are available at 21/20 for the win and they will be sure to give it their all to get their noses in front.

Winning Margin

Given how close the bookmakers feel this match might be, we’re interested in a couple of Winning Margin bets which involve picking a side to win and how many points they might edge out their opponent by.

For those that fancy the Chiefs quite strongly, how about a bit of 8/1 that they claim a victory by 13-18 points against the 49-ers, while those that expect a more emphatic margin of a triumph can get 12/1 about a 19-24 win.

Alternatively, the 49-ers are 15/4 to win by a 1-6 point margin and you would effectively want a close game where the underdogs come out slightly on top.
