FA Cup Betting Odds Comparison: 2018 4th Round Set to Excite

24/01/2018 07:45

while the fourth round of the fa cup somehow doesn’t quite have the same excitement as the third, we are still hopeful for shocks this weekend. the competition’s biggest sides are reaching their second hurdle on the road to wembley, and we’re hoping to see one or two follow arsenal with a shock defeat. ahead of this weekend’s live fa cup action, we have the latest betting tips, odds comparison and outright winner predictions below.

peterborough v leicester city: foxes kick start bumper saturday

saturday is a busy day of fa cup action, with plenty going on across the day. not only are the usual 3pm kick-offs taking place, but there are three live games starting with leicester’s trip to peterborough. the foxes made it through thanks to a replay, but they’ll be hoping for better in the fourth round when they take on league one opposition. the premier league side are heavy favourites according to our odds comparison, and we see them making their way into the next round.

claude puel surely has his eyes on this competition, with the foxes pushing for a top half finish this season. they have the quality and the squad depth to mount a strong cup run, and they have little to miss out on in the league. having suffered the hassle of heading to a replay in the last round, we expect the foxes to pull off a result first time around here. we’re backing an away win in this one at 4/7 with coral.

newport v tottenham: tottenham wales bound yet unlikely to rotate

tottenham went with a strong side in their previous fa cup tie, despite being heavy favourites against afc wimbledon. they head to newport county in the fourth round, and their policy is unlikely to change for this clash. with the fa cup now spurs’ best chance of silverware, it makes sense for them to focus their efforts on securing the trophy, especially when they’d essentially be at home in the semi-final and final.

we doubt that newport will offer any kind of resistance against the likes of harry kane, and we expect spurs to cruise to victory in their clash with the welsh side. you can get odds of 7/4 with bet365 on spurs to win with a -2 handicap, and we think that’s fantastic value. the visitors are heavy favourites according to our odds comparison, and we think there’s great value in backing them for a big win given the gulf in class between the sides.

liverpool v west bromwich: west brom make late trip to anfield

saturday’s action rounds off with an evening match, as west brom head to anfield. it’s a new set up for the fa cup, especially with bt sport carrying all of the games. with late saturday clashes creeping into english football, this is simply a sign of what is to come. the reds should impress in their prime-time slot, as they’re up against an under achieving west brom outfit in this clash who will be far more concerned with top flight survival. the reds should be confident of progressing, as they look to keep their hopes of winning a trophy this season alive.

the baggies aren’t exactly impressing going forward, and they’re looking particularly light on goals on their travels. they could well rotate ahead of this trip, and that may leave them even shorter up front. given that liverpool went with virgil van dijk in their last cup tie to great effect, they’re likely to start with a strong defence here. having been in excellent defensive form at home this season, klopp’s men should have little trouble keeping a clean sheet, and as a result we’re predicting a home win to nil at best betting odds of 21/10 with ladbrokes.

chelsea v newcastle: are blues returning to form?

chelsea seemingly found their feet in front of goal last weekend, as they blew away brighton with a 4-0 victory. the blues looked excellent with forward eden hazard impressing, but the likes of willian and michy batshuayi also looked strong going forward. as a result, we expect to see a much better display in attack from the blues in this one, especially given that they beat newcastle 3-1 in their last encounter at stamford bridge.

that was the scoreline which city beat newcastle by at the weekend, while the magpies were beaten 4-1 away to manchester united. having troubled tottenham on the opening day of the season and after securing a 1-1 draw with liverpool at home, the toon have a knack for scoring against the elite. we’re backing them to find the net once more against a rotated chelsea side, but we’re also backing the premier league champions to score. we’re backing both teams to score in this one, which is priced at odds of evens with ladbrokes.

cardiff city v man city: could championship opposition stifle city?

manchester city are up against championship opposition once again this weekend, as they take on cardiff. the citizens are looking for success on multiple fronts this season, but oddly enough the biggest problems they’ve had this term have come in domestic cup matches. they were taken to penalties by wolves in the carabao cup, while leicester also managed to hold them through 120 minutes.

bristol city’s aggressive press managed to cause problems in the carabao cup semi-finals, while man city trailed burnley when the sides met in the last round of this competition. as a result, we fancy cardiff to threaten the hosts, and they could even sneak away with a result. while everything is pointing towards a big home win – city are heavy odds-on favourites on our odds comparison – we’re backing cardiff to frustrate the hosts. we’re backing the welsh side with a +2 handicap here, which can be found at decent odds of evens with coral.

fa cup winner: outright predictions

on top of looking through the fourth round, we’ve cast our eye over the outright winner market to find a few betting tips. manchester city are heavy favourites according to our odds comparison, they’re currently 3/1 with unibet to lift the trophy. manchester united follow them at 9/2 with bet365, while chelsea are 11/2 with coral to win the cup for the first time since 2012. the top of the betting is made up of the top sides left in the competition, with all of the top six in the running – bar arsenal.

however, we’re looking outside that group for a possible outsider. we mentioned earlier that leicester have the quality and squad depth to go on a cup run, and we believe that they could land some silverware this term. their manager did take southampton to the efl cup final at wembley last term, so he does have previous in domestic cups.

the foxes are pretty big outsiders at betting odds of 25/1 with william hill but we think there’s a lot of value in that price. they have the right draw to make it through to the fifth round, and they have a squad full of premier league winners. they’re targeting more medals and a return to europe, which has to make them focus on this tournament.
