World Cup Qualification Betting Odds - 11th & 12th November 2016

10/11/2016 11:15

the race to the 2018 world cup in russia is certainly starting to heat up. all the home nations are in action this weekend, and all five will be looking to take one giant leap to russia with a positive result.

gareth southgate’s england host gordon strachan’s scotland at wembley on friday evening, whilst michael o’neill’s northern ireland entertain azerbaijan. on saturday, martin o’neill’s republic of ireland make the trip to vienna to play austria, and chris coleman’s wales welcome serbia to the cardiff city stadium.

we’ve got betting tips, predictions, analysis and live odds comparison on six of the biggest games from the world cup qualifiers taking place across the course of the weekend, which includes england match with scotland, sweden’s trip to france and saturday’s spain v macedonia contest in granada. standby for what promises to be another action-packed weekend of international football.

france v sweden

we kick things off with the big match from group a, as didier deschamps’ france welcome janne andersson’s sweden to the stade de france on friday night. with both sides locked together on seven points, with the same goals scored and conceded, something has got to give. we should be in for a cracking contest in saint-denis this friday evening and we predict a tight game.

with danny blind’s netherlands battling it out to be the top dogs in the group too, the fight for no. 1 spot in group a promises to be a fascinating battle. the french, who won in holland during qualifying last month, dropped points at belarus in their opening match. whilst les bleus were drawing in barysaw, the swedes and the dutch were playing out a 1-1 draw in solna.

this is a game that could go either, but we can see home advantage playing a key role. looking at the live odds comparison, france are priced at 2/7 (william hill) for the win, whilst you can get a sweden victory at 14/1 at betvictor. although 14/1 is a very tempting price, we’re predicting these two to cancel each other out at the stade de france. the best odds you can get on the draw are 17/4 at coral, and we feel that’s the prime value bet in this one.

england v scotland

arguably, the most mouth-watering fixture from this week’s qualifiers is friday’s fixture at wembley between gareth southgate’s england and gordon strachan’s scotland. since the draw was made, this is the match that both sets of supporters have been anticipating the most and, although england have the better squad on paper, the scots always seem to up their game when they face their old rivals.

the three lions currently sit top of group f, having taken seven points from their opening three matches. as for the scots, they have claimed just one point from their last two qualifiers, which sees them lie three points behind england going into friday’s showdown. we may only be three games in, but defeat in the english capital will leave scotland’s hopes of reaching russia on thin ice to say the least.

the scots head to england as the 17/2 underdogs with sky bet, and they are priced at odds of 7/2 (betfair) to leave with a draw. meanwhile, if you fancy a home win, the best betting odds you can get are 4/11 with betfred. even though derby matches are always difficult to predict, we fancy southgate’s men to get all three points, and we feel betfred’s 4/11 is the standout bet in this one.

northern ireland v azerbaijan

with joachim low’s germany seemingly on their way to winning group c, the runners-up spot is certainly there for the taking for northern ireland. however, after losing to the world champions last time out, michael o’neill’s men are currently third on four points.

azerbaijan, who sit three points above norn iron in second place in group c, are the visitors to windsor park on friday. despite taking seven points from their opening three matches, robert prosinecki’s side head to belfast as the 6/1 underdogs (betway). sportingbet are offering the very tempting price of 27/10 for the away side to return to azerbaijan with a draw.

william hill have the northern ireland win priced at best betting odds of just 8/13, so we like the look of coral’s 19/10 for o’neill’s side to win -1 on friday. last time out at home, ni thumped minnows san marino 4-0. although azerbaijan are certainly a better outfit than san marino, we still believe the green and white army are more than capable of securing another comfortable victory at windsor park in this one. victory for norn iron would put them right back on track for a top two finish in group c.

austria v republic of ireland

on saturday, martin o’neill takes his republic of ireland side to vienna to face marcel koller’s astute austria team in a crucial wcq group d match. after winning two and drawing one of their first three qualifying matches, the republic will be fully aware that a win at the ernst-happel-stadion on saturday would see them in a great position to qualify from the group.

at present, only three points separate the top four countries in the table and we predict this one will go all the way. serbia and ireland lead the way on seven points, with wales two points behind in third. austria may be fourth on four points, but a win for the austrians on saturday would blow this group wide open. with serbia in cardiff this weekend, we should have a clearer picture of group d after this round of matches.

going into the contest, ireland are the 31/10 (betvictor) underdogs looking at our live odds comparison. the best betting odds you can get on the home win are 21/20 at sportingbet, whilst the draw is priced at odds of 12/5 with betfair. however, we fancy there to be goals between these two on saturday, and our betting tip is over 3.5 of them, which you can get at 18/5 at betvictor.

wales v serbia

the other standout fixture from world cup qualifying group d is wales’ match with table-toppers serbia. the last time the dragons welcomed the serbians to the cardiff city stadium, the visitors ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in front of a crowd of less than 8,000 people in a 2014 world cup qualifier back in september 2013. however, we can see things panning out a little differently this saturday.

incredibly, serbia also won their home fixture by a 6-1 scoreline during that qualifying campaign, but the welsh have come on leaps and bounds since then. in fact, wales have come so far that they are the 7/5 favourites with betway to get the win on saturday. the best odds you can get on a serbia victory are 23/10 with sportingbet, whilst the draw is sensibly priced at even money (betfair).

with the serbians at the top of the table, wales really do need to make home advantage count on the weekend, especially as they dropped points at home to georgia last time out. a win for the dragons would put them level on points with slavoljub muslin’s men in group d, and would certainly tighten this group up even more. we’re struggling to foresee anything other than a home win in this one, and we advise you to take up betway’s decent odds of 7/5 for coleman’s wales to come out on top.

spain v macedonia

moving onto group g, julen lopetegui’s spain welcome igor angelovski’s macedonia to granada’s estadio nuevo los carmenes this saturday. the spaniards, who are joint top of group g with italy, will want to cement their place at the summit with another comfortable victory in this one.

the 2010 world cup winners have opened up their qualifying campaign with an 8-0 win over liechtenstein, a 1-1 draw in italy and a 2-0 victory in shkoder against albania. meanwhile, macedonia have begun with three defeats, as they have been beaten by albania, israel and italy. they did, however, put in a brave performance against giampiero ventura’s italian side, as they eventually lost 3-2 to a ciro immobile goal in injury time.

unfortunately for angelovski’s men, it will be an extremely difficult task for them to get anything from their trip to spain. macedonia have lost all their previous games to the spanish, and we can’t see them picking anything up from saturday’s fixture, either. however, if you believe in miracles, our live odds comparison has a macedonia win priced at 70/1 with betfair. you can get the draw at 14/1 at bet365. however, although the best betting odds you can get on a spain victory are just 1/20 (ladbrokes), we just can’t envision any other outcome from saturday’s fixture. we predict a big home win here, with 4-0 available at long odds and looking good value.
