It’s job done for Liverpool Football Club who have breezed into the last sixteen of the UEFA Champions League after four successive wins in the group stage. The Merseyside club have secured top spot and they are unlikely to be going all out for a victory against Porto in a clash which matters far more to the visitors.
Jurgen Klopp will want his team to put on a bright show although a busy fixture schedule will surely see the German opt to rest key personnel and it might be that players such as Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Fabinho are given the night off as the team look to make up ground in the Premier League.
Porto were soundly thrashed at home to the same team a few weeks ago and that 5-1 reverse clearly doesn’t inspire confidence, although the Portuguese side have only conceded one additional goal in their other three matches, so they are usually defensively sound.
We’re expecting the visitors to batten down the hatches and hope to profit on the counter-attack or from set pieces with a draw likely to be fine with a Liverpool side who won’t be sad to see Atletico Madrid miss out on a place in the last sixteen.
