Match Betting (1x2)

We’re excited for the return of the Champions League, with the tournament’s group stage kicking off on Tuesday 17 September and the highlight match is probably the clash between Napoli and Liverpool.

After all, the Reds won last season’s competition after a spectacular comeback in their semi-final to beat Barcelona before a victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the final although they did struggle somewhat during the group stage and lost all three of their away games.

That included a 1-0 reverse at the Stadio San Paolo, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side hatching a plan to contain a lively Reds team and Unibet offer 21/10 that the Italian side are able to land another three-point haul.

Ancelotti will feel as though his Napoli team can qualify for the last sixteen this time around after missing out to Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain last time around, with Genk and Red Bull Salzburg the other sides in the group.

Liverpool will want to make a strong start and William Hill go 5/4 about the visitors leaving Italy with three points, although we think this could be a game which ends all square.

Jurgen Klopp will know that it’s likely that Liverpool will scoop victories in all three matches at Anfield, with William Hill offering 5/2 that this one ends all square.

First Goalscorer

Mohamed Salah is always a popular First Goalscorer selection and he’s likely to be the assigned penalty taker for Liverpool if James Milner is off the pitch, with Ladbrokes going 7/2 that the Egyptian king scores the opening goal of the game.

Salah had something of a bust-up with Sadio Mane in a recent clash at Burnley when the Senegal forward clearly had an issue with the fact that his team-mate didn’t pass the ball to him, although the latter is a 4/1 chance with Coral to break the deadlock in this one.

Roberto Firmino is the third wheel of this attack and the Brazilian can often be found getting the breakthrough, with odds of 11/2 on offer that he scores the opening goal of this contest.

Napoli have scored six goals in their two Serie A games to date and so it’s clear that the Naples side are firing on all cylinders, with Lorenzo Insigne bagging two goals away to Fiorentina on the opening day of the season.

Insigne is a 15/2 chance with Ladbrokes to score the first goal, while Dries Mertens is another lively operator for Napoli, with the Belgian available at 8/1 (Paddy Power) and he’ll be looking to probe away at a defence which is often hard to break down.

Hirving Lozano is one of the new signings after arriving from PSV Eindhoven and the Mexican is a 10/1 chance to break the deadlock for his new club.

Both Teams to Score

This is an interesting market in the context of what happened in both matches between Napoli and Liverpool last season. In both situations, the home team won by a single goal, with the Italian side actually managing to stop their opponents creating a meaningful chance in Naples.

In the other game at Anfield, we saw a more open clash, although Liverpool were able to find the breakthrough before riding out a few late chances from the visitors before qualifying for the last sixteen.

Unibet offer 6/4 about the “No” option when it comes to BTTS, with a strong argument available for taking this on the bet slip. For starters, the Liverpool defence is strong and we also have the evidence of the previous two encounters between the sides.

We also know that Napoli’s tactical approach is likely to be similar to the one from last season and that could mean a cagey affair where the home side look to soak up pressure, with the Italian side scoring a late winner last time.

However, the “Yes” option is trading at odds-on for a reason. William Hill have 6/10 that both sides find the net and an early goal from Liverpool could open the floodgates and see this selection profit.

Over / Under Goals

On the one hand, we’re drawn in by the 7/10 with William Hill that there will be Over 2.5 Goals in this match. After all, Napoli have started the season by being involved in two of the most exciting matches possible, with Ancelotti’s men claiming a 4-3 victory away to Fiorentina before losing 4-3 away to Juventus.

These results were not the sort usually accustomed with the Naples team, although it’s clear that an attack-minded approach was deployed in both cases and there’s even the chance to go for Over 3.5 Goals in this clash at 8/5 with Unibet.

As for Under 2.5 Goals, that is trading at a standout 13/10 with Unibet and there could be a reward for punters who want to grab a bite of this odds-against value.

After all, the two teams will not want to taste defeat in their opening game and could be deploying a cagey strategy, while the really brave customers might fancy a bit of the 19/5 about Under 1.5 Goals.

Correct Score

BetVictor offer 13/2 about a 1-1 scoreline occurring at the Stadio San Paolo, although Liverpool will want to make a statement after losing the match last season and Unibet offer 18/1 that we see the Reds enjoy a 3-0 winning scoreline.

Napoli are an 11/1 shot to win the clash by a single goal as they did last term, while a 2-2 draw can be backed at odds of 10/1 and certainly can’t be ruled out.

If you think we’ll witness yet another 4-3 humdinger featuring the Naples side, then Paddy Power have 125/1 about the Italians winning by this scoreline.
