Porto v Atlético Madrid Betting Tips

FC Porto have only won one of their five Champions League group games although they still find themselves sitting second in the standings. Sérgio Conceição’s side were one of the surprise packages in the competition last term and dumped out Juventus, with the Portuguese champions now bidding to reach the knockout stage once again.

Porto are trading as the slight betting outsiders to get the better of Atletico Madrid on Tuesday 7 December, with the team having achieved a goalless draw at the Wanda Metropolitano earlier in the season and it’s possible that the same outcome could be enough to see them over the line.

Bookies Expecting Tight Champions League Affair at Estádio do Dragão

The two teams have already played out a goalless draw this season and the stakes are very high for this clash, with the bookies going odds-on about Under 2.5 Goals. It’s easy to see a low-scoring contest considering that either team will want to sit on a 1-0 lead and Atletico Madrid have made a habit of winning by that scoreline on a consistent basis.

However, Atleti have struggled during the group stage, being held by Porto and winning at the San Siro to kick things off. However, they were turned over twice by runaway leaders Liverpool and were then beaten at home by Milan which means that they could easily drop into the Europa League or potentially finish bottom of the section.

Atletico Madrid are faring well domestically where they sit second in the La Liga standings and perhaps they will be able to use their experience and show their class in this match. Recent results have been encouraging including a 4-1 victory away at Cadiz which sets them up nicely for this encounter.

Atletico Madrid Slight Favourites to Beat Porto

The bookmakers figure that Atletico Madrid are a slightly stronger team than their opponents and they have them as slight betting favourites to win. The task is more straightforward than their opponents who know that a draw could be enough, although the visitors will have to play on the front foot and try to find a way to score against Porto.

The fact that they have averaged less than a goal in the Champions League doesn’t bode well although perhaps this will be a classic 1-0 victory in favour of Simeone’s men. This could be worth considering on the correct score market, with No Goalscorer also a good recommendation considering that you can still profit if the only goal of the game is an own goal.

Much depends on what is happening at the San Siro where Milan take on a Liverpool side who will surely rest players now that the job of securing a last sixteen spot is done. Indeed, the Italian side are trading favourites to win this game and will benefit from the way that the fixture schedule has worked out.
