Gus Poyet was under no illusions when it came to taking charge of the Greek national team, with the side having failed to reach a major tournament since turning at the 2014 World Cup. However, things began well in qualifying for Euro 2024 by claiming a 3-0 victory away to Gibraltar, with a clash against the Irish being followed by a trip to France.
The Greek team are packed with experience, with captain Tasos Bakasetas leading the team into battle and the Trabzonspor midfielder is just one of several players with a large number of caps. The biggest issue is a lack of goals among the various forwards, with AZ’s Vangelis Pavlidis potentially the one that can cause the French defence the most problems.
France are a massive price to overcome Greece and they have already achieved bloodless wins over Netherlands and Republic of Ireland. Therefore, one of the best bets could be backing Les Bleus to secure a victory without conceding. Didier Deschamps might not field his strongest team for the clash although a 2-0 or 3-0 win could be in the offing.
The evergreen Olivier Giroud has scored over 50 goals for his country and continues to command a place in the squad, while Kylian Mbappe is now the captain and these two forwards are flanked by Antoine Griezmann who operates in a different role for Les Bleus. It would be a big surprise if this wasn’t comfortable for one of the favourites to win Euro 2024.
