Arsenal v Atletico Madrid Match Result
Arsenal are big favourites to claim another Champions League victory on Tuesday. The Gunners have made a strong start to the 2025/26 campaign and perhaps this is the season where they add some silverware to the cabinet. They went top of the Premier League before the international break and they’re also going along well in Europe.
A trip to Athletic Bilbao on 16 September saw the north London side really limit their Spanish opponents and they wound up with a 2-0 victory. This clinical edge has been seen on several occasions and Mikel Arteta’s side are ridiculously strong from a defensive point-of-view. This is simply a team who don’t make it all easy for opposition teams to find the net.
Indeed, the only defeat that Arsenal have suffered this season was a 1-0 reverse at Anfield. They were only undone by a wonder free-kick and they were perhaps slightly unadventurous in that encounter. However, the return of Bukayo Saka from injury along with the influence of Eberechi Eze means that they’re in good health attacking-wise.
As for Atletico Madrid, they’re another team who are hard to beat. After being defeated 2-1 against Espanyol in their opening game, it’s been an unbeaten stint domestically. In Europe, they showed character to come back from two goals down to draw level at Anfield only to be undone by a late winner.
This is also a team who can score goals in volume. They had an absolutely crazy 5-2 victory against Real Madrid where Julian Alvarez was able to turn the game in his team’s favour, while they were also able to blow away Eintracht Frankfurt by a similar scoreline domestically.
Goals Under/Over
The bookies make the 2.5 goals line a pick ‘em situation. We are looking at two sides who pride themselves on defensive steeliness. It’s highly unlikely that Arsenal are going to concede any more than one goal in any football match right now. They have conceded just three goals in the space of seven Premier League games.
The Gunners have also had two Under 2.5 Goals games in the Champions League so far. Both of these matches ended in a 2-0 victory in their favour. The big question is how many Arsenal might be able to score. We know that they can pose a threat at the Emirates Stadium and create plenty of chances, especially with Eze and Saka in the team.
Viktor Gyokeres is a Swedish sharp-shooter who hasn’t quite ignited in front of goal right now, with Atletico having conceded three goals against Liverpool last time they came to England. Defensively, they are struggling to achieve shut-outs and the only time this was achieved was against Villarreal in September.
BTTS
It’s no surprise to find that BTTS Yes is trading as the outside selection of the two. After all, Arsenal specialise in clean sheets and it would come as no surprise to find another bloodless Gunners win. The BTTS No selection also includes a goalless draw which would delight an Atletico Madrid side who won’t be naïve to think that an open game plan will work against their London opponents.
We always like having an Arsenal win to nil on our side. The goalkeeper David Raya is a brilliant stopper operating in front of Gabriel and William Saliba. They’re arguably the toughest central defensive partnership in Europe, while Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori are excellent full-backs and that all happens behind Declan Rice.
However, we know that Atletico Madrid have firepower. They have managed to score in every match this season and there has only been one game where BTTS No has happened. Those five-goal salvos against Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt were quite recent and perhaps the only way to get something against Arsenal is by meeting fire with fire.
Even so, this Arsenal defence is tough as nails and we think the Gunners winning to nil is a sensible strategy for this game and on an ongoing basis.
First Goalscorer
The odds would suggest that an Arsenal player is most likely first goalscorer. It is almost certain that Viktor Gyokeres is leading the line, with the Swede capable of proving the difference up top. However, the forward has not made a huge impact in front of goal thus far. Despite arriving from Sporting with plenty of hype, he has three goals to show for his efforts thus far.
Indeed, it has now been eight games without a goal for the ex-Coventry striker, with Bukayo Saka potentially the better option. The England man looks set to be on penalty duties and he scored in back-to-back victories for the Gunners before the international break. The 24-year-old is a strong focal point for the attack.
Eberechi Eze is yet to find the net aside from a goal against Port Vale in the EFL Cup, although the England international is a danger man and could cause problems for this deep-lying defence. As for Atletico, look no further than a former Manchester City striker. Julian Alvarez has scored six goals in five games for his club at the time of writing.
