Arsenal v PSG Match Result
There’s a 47% likelihood that Arsenal will claim a first-leg victory according to the latest football betting odds. This Tuesday night encounter gives the Gunners a chance to get their noses in front, with Mikel Arteta hoping that the supporters help to engineer an advantage before travelling to the Parc des Princes a few days later.
Arsenal haven’t got a fantastic win rate at the Emirates this term. Ten wins have only come in seventeen home encounters. However, there’s only one defeat that has been suffered on home soil and they don’t have any domestic distractions considering that they are likely to finish a distant second to champions Liverpool.
Some will feel as though Paris Saint-Germain are the best bet to win. Although they were defeated by Aston Villa in the second leg of their quarter final tie at Villa Park, that was partly down to the fact that they were 5-1 up on aggregate before taking their foot off the gas. PSG were better in three of the four quarters of the encounter and took a 2-0 lead in England thanks to their roving full-backs.
PSG are an attractive price to win the game and they are also favourites to actually qualify from the tie. Perhaps the draw is the most attractive option when it comes to the Full-Time Result market, with the visitors certainly likely to be happy for the scoreline to be level before hosting their opponents.
Paris have not lost an away game in Ligue 1 this season. Granted, it might not be as competitive a domestic division as some of the other main European counterparts, although they are undefeated in the French top flight and they have been easing down domestically for some time.
Goals Under/Over
There’s little to split the betting odds when it comes to Under 2.5 Goals and Over 2.5 Goals. You can make a case for either of the above. There’s little point spending too long over the fact that Paris Saint-Germain have scored eighty-three goals in their thirty Ligue 1 matches this team. However, it does demonstrate their scoring power and they were able to contribute five goals against Aston Villa in the quarter finals.
In both of those matches, we saw Over 2.5 Goals. Indeed, there were Over 3.5 Goals in each leg although we should also note that PSG’s clashes against Liverpool were altogether more low-scoring. A Harvey Elliott strike was the difference between the two teams at the Parc des Princes before an Ousmane Dembele goal restored parity at Anfield.
We know that Arsenal are tight defensively in normal circumstances. Despite Gabriel being injured, the partnership of Kiwior and Saliba looked rock solid against Real Madrid, with Thomas Partey and Declan Rice operating in front of the back four and enabling the likes of Martin Odegaard to rove forward.
BTTS
We should note that there is no longer an away goals rule in place in Europe. However, the BTTS Yes price is trading at odds-on. There’s a roughly 60% chance of both teams scoring according to the latest betting odds. It’s certainly hard to see this game ending goalless considering that Arsenal will want to establish an advantage.
In addition, Paris Saint-Germain rarely fail to find the net. Against Liverpool, they created untold chances and had a brilliant XG despite being unable to score. They will be up against a Gunners side who average two goals per home match in the Premier League and they also put three past Real Madrid in the previous round.
Two of those goals came from Declan Rice free-kicks although there were plenty of chances created. Let’s also not forget that PSG managed 83 goals in their Ligue 1 clashes thus far, with that Liverpool clash the only time that the French champions have failed to find the net since November in all competitions.
First Goalscorer
Ousmane Dembele has scored twenty-one goals in Ligue 1 this season, with the Frenchman certain of a starting berth at the Emirates Stadium. The twenty-seven-year-old is making the most of being the main attacking player at PSG, with the player having a ten-match scoring streak between December and February. However, it’s now been five games without finding the net for the forward.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is definitely worthy of consideration, with the Georgian having scored three times recently. He notched for his country against Armenia before a goal at St-Etienne and there was also a stunning strike against Aston Villa in the previous round of the competition.
Arsenal have plenty of viable goalscorers themselves. Declan Rice scored two free-kicks against Real Madrid and will be first in the queue when it comes to set pieces. Bukayo Saka is clearly a world-class talent who can cause problems and we would expect him to continue to take spot kick duties. We might also consider Martin Odegaard who can certainly find space around the edge of the penalty area and takes a mean strike.
