Aston Villa v PSG Match Result
Paris Saint-Germain don’t need to win at Villa Park on Tuesday. In fact, they can get away with a one-goal defeat and still go through. However, we’re not expecting the French champions to manage their way through this second leg encounter. PSG only know one way to play and they have been getting progressively better as the season has progressed.
Indeed, it’s crazy to think they didn’t finish in the top eight of the regular Champions League standings. This team can lay claim to being the best in Europe right now and they can be backed at odds-against to win this second leg encounter. The bookies give them a 46.5% chance of winning although we think this probability is higher.
In the first leg encounter, Paris had 75% of the ball and ten shots on target. They had a further eight shots off target and completely bossed the game. It’s hard to see how the second leg will be any different aside from the fact that the game will be played at a boisterous Villa Park. However, there’s no getting away from the fact that one side is significantly better than the other.
Unai Emery has done a remarkable job with the Villans. They were enjoying a seven-game winning run in all competitions before that defeat in the French capital. It’s also been seventeen home matches in all competitions since the Midlands side were last beaten on home soil. However, they don’t face teams that have this sort of calibre and there’s a real dilemma between attacking and making sure they do their defensive duties.
If you do fancy backing a Paris Saint-Germain victory, then you can wager them and both teams to score. Villa will keep attacking all the way to the end and that could mean that they end up finding the net, even if it’s some kind of consolation.
Goals Under/Over
Will there be a high-scoring clash at Villa Park on Tuesday? The bookies think it’s a likely outcome and there were four notched at the Parc des Princes in the first leg. After Morgan Rogers gave Aston Villa a surprise lead, Paris Saint-Germain were able to turn the game on its head with some virtuoso strikes and the net could end up bulging a similar number of times here.
Over 2.5 Goals looks set to be a likely outcome and that is trading at an attractive price. It could be worth going even higher and Over 3.5 Goals makes appeal. We can genuinely see a scenario where Villa have to go for goals and end up being open at the back. Therefore, don’t rule out the prospect of their being a large goal tally when all is said and done.
We know that PSG won’t sit back and will go on the front foot. We also know that Villa have to find a way to create chances and three goals is the minimum we can expect here.
BTTS
We saw both sides find the net at Parc des Princes in the first leg. Aston Villa were somewhat lucky to score in the French capital considering that chances were scarce as far as the English side were concerned. However, Paris weren’t flattered by their three goals and could have ended up pilfering a lot more.
It's hard to see how the visitors don’t score in this game based on their chances in the first leg. Even without home advantage, we know that they will show lots of attacking intensity and it would be a surprise if they didn’t manage to score at least one goal. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is going to be a real issue along with whichever teammates are selected alongside him.
Desire Doue is a nineteen-year-old starting to light up the stage on a regular basis and Bradley Barcola will compete with Ousmane Dembele for a place in the starting line-up. As for the Villans, does Unai Emery take a gamble and field Ollie Watkins and Marcus Rashford in attack. Perhaps we’ll also see Marco Asensio start the game and make problems for his parent club.
First Goalscorer
Paris Saint-Germain are favourites and Desire Doue could be the best option when it comes to the first goal. The player is fast becoming a superstar in the Kylian Mbappe mould and we have recently seen him notch against St-Etienne, Angers and Aston Villa. He is likely to be starting once again in this second leg encounter and could be the best bet.
Khvicha Kvaratskheli has three in his previous four games and the Georgian caused so many problems on the left side that Matty Cash was withdrawn at half-time in the first leg when on a yellow card. The forward is starting to demonstrate why Paris splashed out such a big transfer fee to sign him from Napoli and we’re expecting a goal to come from him.
Ollie Watkins can probably consider himself unfortunate that he didn’t start at the Parc des Princes and maybe he can give Villa some hope with the opening goal of this game. However, Morgan Rogers is probably the value pick for the home side and he’s a danger man considering there have been fourteen goals for the England man.
