Barcelona v PSG Match Result
Will Barcelona beat Paris Saint-Germain at the Nou Camp? It’s a coin-toss according to the bookies, with Hansi Flick’s side trading at a shade of odds-on to secure a victory. Barca have begun the season in promising fashion, taking thirteen points from their first five encounters. They’ve been especially strong at home considering that their two wins on home soil have been achieved by an aggregate score of 9-0.
There was a 6-0 pasting of Valencia before a more modest 3-0 triumph against Getafe. Both matches were one-way traffic although the 2-1 victory at Newcastle was a closer affair. At St James’ Park, the Magpies actually had six shots on target compared to their opponents’ five, with Barca having an additional eight shots off target.
Yamal might still be missing but the Champions League betting sites not only think that Barcelona are favourites but the odds imply that the bookies think Barca are the better team. There aren’t many occasions where you will find a team odds-on to fend off the challenge of a Paris Saint-Germain team who are the champions of Europe.
It's always hard to judge PSG at the beginning of a season. They had a good run in the Club World Championship where there were some notable wins against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. The final defeat to Chelsea was unexpected and they were on the back foot when losing 2-0 to Tottenham before landing a Super Cup success on penalties.
Since the campaign has started, there have been five straight wins and the most notable was a 6-3 success away to Toulouse. There was also a 4-0 success against Atalanta when opening their Champions League account with a flourish. They will have had plenty of prep time for this encounter considering they face Auxerre at home on the Saturday before this clash takes place on the Wednesday.
Goals Under/Over
It’s almost certain that we’ll see Over 2.5 Goals between arguably the two most attack-minded sides in the Champions League. The bookies are unanimous in thinking that there will be at least three scored. Odds of 1.36 are only for big hitters although many an accumulator wager might feature this selection.
There’s an argument for going Over 3.5 Goals. Indeed, there’s nothing between the Over or Under odds when it comes to the 3.5 Goal line. There might be a gunfight which involves both teams attempting to outscore each other. However, we can’t discount the fact that PSG might be set up to absorb pressure and aim to break on the counter.
It’s an intriguing tactical battle and we’re expecting the midfield area to determine where the battle will be won or lost. Should you think that there will be a lower goal count than the odds suggest, it’s a rare chance to go under the 3.5 goal line.
BTTS
Both teams to score looks roughly as likely as Over 2.5 Goals. The advantage of going for the former is that you can also win with a 1-1 scoreline. At the time of writing, PSG have scored ten goals in the space of four games along with an additional four against Atalanta in the Champions League. There’s hardly going to be a game throughout the season where Paris Saint-Germain fail to find the net as they simply don’t draw a blank.
Barcelona have the same situation. They are an attacking machine with or without Lamine Yamal. The Spaniard might not be rushed back although he will want to face the European champions and test himself against one of the better sides in the competition. Even so, there’s the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha to find the net.
Marcus Rashford proved to be the match winner at St James’ Park and the former Manchester United forward is starting to once again show that he’s an elite football player. If you fancy Barcelona or PSG to win their respective games, you can combine this selection with both teams to find the net. It could even be worth going for a fancy scoreline price such as a 3-2 victory to either side.
First Goalscorer
There are lots of possible players who can score a goal for either team and this make it a fascinating market. Ferran Torres is an underrated cog in the Barcelona squad and he was at the double against Getafe to score his fourth and fifth goal of the campaign. He was also on target against Mallorca and Levante along with notching for his country at Turkey.
Dani Olmo could also fare well and he was off the mark against Getafe, while Robert Lewandowski was able to score two of his team’s six efforts in that rout against Valencia and it’s never long before the Pole’s next goal. Raphinha also bagged a brace against Los Che and the Brazilian has the ability to run in more goals in a wide open contest.
As for PSG, there’s the Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele looking to get among the goals and the French striker was prolific last term. There’s been a strong start to the season for Bradley Barcola who has three on the board already in Ligue 1 and there’s also been three goals for Joao Neves who can offer some cut and thrust from midfield.
