Bayern v Inter Match Result
According to the Champions League betting sites, Bayern Munich have a 57% chance of landing a first leg victory against Inter. Vincent Kompany’s side are generally robust at the Allianz Arena, with their domestic form making for good reading. There have been eleven wins and a draw from thirteen encounters on home soil, with a massive forty-three goals being scored.
Naturally, Bayern don’t come up against teams like Inter every week, although there’s also a 60% probability in the eyes of the bookies when it comes to reaching the last four. There was plenty to like about the 3-0 and 2-0 victories that were achieved against Bayer Leverkusen in the previous round, although Munchen did make hard work of beating Celtic in the first knockout phase.
A 2-1 victory in Glasgow set things up nicely for the German champions-elect, although that was followed by Celtic nearly winning 1-0 at the Allianz before Alphonso Davies managed to secure a 1-1 draw to see Bayern edge out the Scottish champions. It will still give Inter some encouragement.
The Italian champions achieved a 4-1 aggregate victory over Feyenoord and they’re not a team who lose many matches. At the time of writing, the Milan side sit top of the Serie A standings with a solid return of sixty-four points from twenty-nine matches, with the team currently seven games unbeaten in all competitions.
The majority of these matches have seen Inter triumph, with a 2-0 success at Atalanta potentially proving decisive in the race for the Scudetto, while they also showed character to come from two goals down to defeat Monza. Away from home in Serie A, there have been thirteen of the fifteen matches where a loss has been avoided. Therefore, perhaps a draw is a better option than a win to either side.
Goals Under/Over
Although Bayern Munich are power scorers at the Allianz Arena, this isn’t a straightforward fixture for the German side. They will be facing an Inter side who have only conceded eleven goals in fifteen away clashes, with Simone Inzaghi’s side actually proving to be more defensively stubborn on the road compared to life at the San Siro.
Yann Sommer is a great goalkeeper who will line up against his former club and the Swiss will be determined to stop his old team-mates, with Benjamin Pavard another former Bayern defender who is enjoying his second season with the Italian club and it will be interesting whether they can keep Harry Kane quiet.
The bookies think it’s a toss-up over whether we’ll see the goal tally go over the 2.5 line, with this potentially being a cagey first leg where both teams might tread cautiously. However, Bayern will feel as though they want to take an advantage to Milan.
BTTS
Will both teams find the net at the Allianz Arena? It’s not very often that Bayern Munich fail to score in front of their own fans. It has also been the case that Vincent Kompany’s side have found the net in their previous seven matches in all competitions, although they were nullified in a Bundesliga encounter against Bayer Leverkusen before putting the same team to the sword in the Champions League double header.
Bayern were nearly thwarted by Celtic two rounds ago when trailing 1-0 at home until the dying minutes, with the team having an abundance of firepower and Harry Kane is the sort of marksman who only needs one chance to score. He’s back up by the likes of Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane, Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry. Quite a collection of attacking players.
Inter might also be able to find the net. It has been seven consecutive matches for the champions of Italy to find the net, with the last time being a 1-0 defeat at Juventus. However, they were also beaten 3-0 by Fiorentina ten days previously and there could be a failure to create meaningful chances.
The Inter game plan is also likely to consist of a defensive approach on the basis that a low-scoring draw would be the ideal outcome ahead of the second leg. We therefore think that BTTS No could be a decent option considering that this covers a goalless draw along with wins to nil for either side.
First Goalscorer
Harry Kane is nearly always favourite to score the opening goal when Bayern Munich are in action. The England captain has pilfered twenty-two goals in the Bundesliga this term, with the former Tottenham man finding the net in both of his country’s recent clashes against Albania and Latvia. He then returned to his club by netting against St Pauli.
Leroy Sane was also able to bag a brace in that clash and the former Manchester City man has the pace and trickery to confuse the Inter defence. Sane has twelve in total for the season, with Raphael Guerreiro available at a bigger price and the Portuguese was able to notch a recent brace against Bochum, with Bayern having a wide range of potential scorers.
Marcus Thuram is Inter’s top scorer this season and the Frenchman could cause problems for the home rearguard who haven’t always been watertight this term. There was a goal scored by the forward away to Feyenoord before finding the net at home to the Dutch side, with those being the only goals managed since 19 January against Empoli.
