Manchester City are regarded as the team most likely to reach the quarter final stage of the UEFA Champions League out of all the teams left in the competition. They won their section with something to spare after racking up a spate of early wins, finishing ahead of Borussia Dortmund and Erling Haaland could make all the difference when the competition heads into the business end of proceedings.

It would be a major shock if City didn’t find their way into the last eight of the competition, with the English champions heading to the Red Bull Arena in the first leg of this tie and they haven’t always been convincing on the road domestically this term. They were exposed defensively when drawing 3-3 at Newcastle and they also lost 1-0 at Anfield.

Even so, Haaland is a potential Ballon d’Or winner and the Norwegian should be well-rested after taking a mid-season break while the World Cup was taking place. The majority of his team-mates will have been representing their countries in Qatar and Guardiola will hope for a clean bill of health when preparing for this Champions League tie.

Leipzig are potentially dangerous opponents and they were able to beat Real Madrid 3-2 during the group stage, with Timo Werner back at a club where he feels most at home. The German forward and Christian Nkunku can pose a few difficulties for City and it’s always good to feel like underdogs when it comes to these sort of clashes.
