Leeds United and Southampton supporters will descend on Wembley Stadium this Sunday in the hope of seeing their team promoted to the Premier League. Both teams have had successful campaigns which saw them narrowly miss out on automatic promotion to the Premier League, with Leeds slight favourites to win the play-off final.
Daniel Farke saw his team demolish Norwich in the play-off semi-final second leg clash, with the Whites 3-0 up by the interval, although that had been preceded by just one win in seven matches. There was a 4-0 humbling at the hands of QPR, with the Saints actually winning at Elland Road as recently as 4 May.
Russell Martin’s side play an attractive brand of football although they experienced a run of three defeats against Cardiff, Leicester and Stoke in April. Since then, they claimed a 2-1 victory against Leeds before a 3-1 aggregate win over West Brom. Adam Armstrong bagged a brace in that second leg clash and now has twenty-three for the season.
The bookmakers anticipate that we could see a high-scoring clash at Wembley, with the BTTS Yes option trading at odds-on. There’s not actually that much between the teams in terms of betting odds and perhaps we will see the tie drawn before extra-time commences.
