Chelsea are capable of winning multiple trophies this season, with the Blues having a huge squad and they can beat Aston Villa with something to spare. When you look at some of the players who didn’t start a recent Champions League encounter against Zenit, this includes goalkeeper Kepa along with players such as Thiago Silva, Trevor Chalobah, Ben Chilwell, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Saul Niguez and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

These players can form a squad for this competition that can help Chelsea go deep and potentially win this trophy, with Manchester City demonstrating the benefit of having quality players in every position. Thomas Tuchel will want to keep the winning mentality going in every competition and Aston Villa look incapable of rotating their squad to the same effect.

It will be interesting to see whether the recently-returned Ollie Watkins starts this game to get match fitness, while Danny Ings isn’t a certainty, although Emi Buendia could be back in the middle of the park and this is a game where Dean Smith will encourage his side to produce a strong performance as they did at Stamford Bridge in the English Premier League.
