After a difficult first half at Portman Road where Ipswich Town were arguably the better team, Arne Slot brought on Ibrahim Konate at half-time and Liverpool were able to spring into action, with the Merseyside team creating plenty of chances. Diogo Jota scored the opening goal after smart work from Mo Salah and the latter then bagged a second.
The Reds now line up at Anfield for the first time this season and they are huge favourites to claim another maximum haul, with Liverpool potentially in the title race. Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to take up an advanced position and there are plenty of attacking options, although it’s Jota, Salah and Luis Diaz who are the preferred attacking trident.
For those that find Liverpool’s odds too short for a victory, there’s the potential option of backing them to win to nil and that’s especially attractive considering that Ivan Toney looks to have played his last game for Brentford. This is available at appealing odds, with the Bees unlikely to create too many chances in what is a difficult game for them.
Bryan Mbuemo and Yoanne Wissa are tasked with scoring goals and manager Thomas Frank might dip into the transfer market if Toney is sold for big money, with Brentford opening the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace although they were on the right side of the refereeing decisions and could struggle to get anything from this clash.
