Match Betting (1x2)

Manchester United haven’t enjoyed the smoothest of football seasons to date, although the Red Devils are largely moving in the right direction. At the time of writing, they have 25 points on the board from 17 games and that puts them bang in the race to land a Premier League top four spot.

BetVictor have 1/3 about them beating Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side expected to claim their fifth home win of the season although it’s worth bearing in mind that they have been regularly thwarted this term.

United began with a 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea which boded well for their home form, although Crystal Palace left with a victory shortly afterwards and there have also been four teams that have taken a point at Old Trafford which has hardly become the fortress that Solskjaer would have liked.

While Newcastle have lost six of their nine away matches in the Premier League, they have won the other three and that has included a recent win at Sheffield United, with Steve Bruce returning to a club where he won a lot of silverware as a player.

The Magpies are 17/2 with William Hill to pull off a Christmas miracle by winning this televised encounter, although we know that they will be more than satisfied with a draw and that can be backed at 17/4.

Asian Handicap

On the one hand, Manchester United have the sort of firepower that can put teams like Newcastle to the sword. On the other, they have regularly been held at home by teams such as Everton, Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

Much comes down to whether the Red Devils can break down stubborn opponents such as this. However, if you think United are capable of winning by a two-goal margin, then you can get 17/16 about the home side with a -1.5 goal handicap.

This price might hold more appeal than the home side on the Full Time Result market, while United -2.5 is available at a tasty 13/5 should you think that the home side can win by a three-goal margin.

Alternatively, some might think that Newcastle can run United much closer than the odds suggest and we should bear in mind that players will be rotated for various fixtures.

Unibet go 41/50 about Newcastle +1.5 and we’re thinking that their aim will be to keep things tight in a bid to get a point from the fixture.

Both Teams to Score

Some bookmakers have even money that both teams score during the ninety minutes although we’re expecting the visitors to have few chances and the focus will be defending deep and nullifying the opposition.

BetVictor offer an appealing 9/10 about the “No” option on the Both Teams to Score betting market, while the “Yes” option is trading at exactly the same price and we would side with the former.

If you want to pursue a similar type of bet, then you can get 5/4 about the home side winning to nil and that could prove a smarter way of getting with United compared to the actual match odds.
