Tottenham v Chelsea Match Result
Chelsea have the benefit of an extra day’s rest when it comes to this London derby, with the Blues having played at St Mary’s on Wednesday night compared to Tottenham travelling to the Vitality Stadium the following evening. Since losing 2-1 at Liverpool on Sunday 20 October, Enzo Maresca’s side are unbeaten in the top flight.
There was a 2-1 home victory over Newcastle before a 1-1 draw at Manchester United and they then played out the same scoreline with Arsenal. Since then, victories have come at Leicester and Aston Villa, with Maresca having a settled team and there’s everything to like about the form of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson.
Chelsea will certainly have their backers based on their starting 11 and the fact that these first-teamers are generally rested for the Europa Conference League exploits, with Enzo Fernandez having broken back into the team and he forms a solid partnership with Moises Caicedo, while Noni Madueke, Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto are strong wide options.
Tottenham did put Manchester City to the sword when winning 4-0 the other week and a repeat performance could see them land another victory. However, Ange Postecoglou is fielding a strong team in the Europa League and we saw Dominic Solanke absent from proceedings in a recent 1-1 draw against Fulham.
It’s hard to fancy Spurs too much in this contest considering they have only won four of their seven games at home this term, with Ipswich having landed a recent 2-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. There was previously a 1-0 win for Arsenal at this ground and there are concerns that Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner aren’t quite good enough to help this team to a top four finish.
Perhaps the draw offers the best value, with this likely to satisfy both teams when it comes to their respective aims of the season. There’s also the possibility of backing one of the sides on the Draw No Bet market as an alternative option.
Goals Under/Over
The Premier League betting sites anticipate that there are going to be at least three goals being scored at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Over 2.5 Goals is trading at a very short price, with the bookies noting the fact that twenty-four goals have been scored in seven Spurs home encounters, with seventeen scored and seven conceded.
Similarly, there have been twenty bagged in six Chelsea away matches at the time of writing. The Blues have plenty of players capable of finding the net, with the visitors averaging two goals per match this term and this was a fixture which they were able to win handsomely last term.
On that occasion, Dejan Kulusevski put Tottenham in the lead before his team got two players sent off and Chelsea were eventually able to turn the screw and rifle four goals past their opponents. The fact that Tottenham continue to be unapologetically attacking suggests that the game will throw up plenty of chances for both sides.
BTTS
BTTS Yes is trading at an even shorter price than Over 2.5 Goals and it would be a surprise if Tottenham or Chelsea failed to score in this game. Spurs have scored in six of their seven home games this term and they managed twenty-eight goals in thirteen encounters to date, with Dominic Solanke likely to be back leading the line.
Chelsea shouldn’t have any problems finding the net either. Since losing at home to Manchester City in their opening clash, the London side have scored in every clash and they have so much firepower within the ranks. Cole Palmer is the obvious star of the show and works well in tandem with Nicolas Jackson, while the team carry a threat in the wide positions.
Enzo Maresca seems to prefer Pedro Neto in the wide left position, although there’s plenty of threat to come from Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho, while Christopher Nkunku also has the potential to come into that forward position and also get amongst the goals.
First Goalscorer
Nicolas Jackson has scored eight goals in his first thirteen Premier League matches and the same applies to Cole Palmer. The duo are in a race to be top club scorer, although the latter has the advantage of being on penalties and free-kicks. Perhaps the midfielder is the one to side with, especially with the player’s prowess to score long-range efforts.
It’s worth noting that Enzo Fernandez has bagged in consecutive games against Leicester City and Aston Villa, with the Argentine now looking to foray into attacking positions and the £100m midfielder could be the one to potentially provide a breakthrough. Don’t forget that Christopher Nkunku could make an impact if he’s given the nod in the attacking positions.
Tottenham have plenty of viable options too. Dominic Solanke will be back in the fold after illness and he could benefit from the service provided out wide. However, maybe James Maddison is the player to provide some inspiration and it was the English midfielder who was able to get amongst the goals at Manchester City.
At a bigger price, Pedro Porro could be the one to make an impact considering the attacking positions that the full-back takes up. One can’t ignore the fact that Brennan Johnson has six on the board, although there are question marks over whether Son Heung-Min is at his imperious best anymore.
