Tottenham v Manchester City Betting Tips
Manchester City are 60% likely to win this Sunday afternoon Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It could be a big three points in terms of challenging for the title, with Pep Guardiola's side likely to be a warm order at 1.65 to claim the spoils. Before last season, the Cityzens had won four consecutive titles and they could be ready to return to the winners' enclosure.
While the north-west side have had a few bumps in the road, they've done well in the January transfer market to land two significant players. Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo will clearly improve the team considering the respective seasons that they were enjoying for Crystal Palace and Bournemouth respectively.
Last weekend, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden were also rested along with Jeremy Doku, with Guardiola likely to keep rotating his squad during a busy fixture schedule. However, some might not be too keen to wager Man City considering that they have failed to win six of their eleven road trips this term.
Tottenham might well be sitting ducks. Since beating Burnley in their opening match of the season, they have enjoyed just one further victory at home. They've drawn three and lost six of their remaining matches in front of their own fans. At the time of writing, Spurs have claimed just one victory across seven games in all competitions, with that being a 2-0 Champions League success against Borussia Dortmund.
Spurs have recently been turned over at home to Aston Villa and West Ham, with the team previously failing to secure a win against Sunderland when drawing 1-1. The knives could be out for Thomas Frank and perhaps this is a match where the visitors run riot.
Goals Under/Over
There's a roughly 65% chance of Over 2.5 Goals being scored between Tottenham and Manchester City on Sunday. That's according to the Premier League betting sites, with four of the past five Spurs games having involved three goals or more. Spurs have recently been turned over by a 2-1 scoreline both in an FA Cup home clash against Aston Villa and then in the Premier League by West Ham.
Thomas Frank's side are generally good for a goal or two as they proved at Turf Moor. However, they also conceded twice as part of a 2-2 draw and there was previously a 3-2 reverse at Bournemouth where Spurs snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory.
We know that Haaland will be lining up in this clash and perhaps a budding relationship with Semenyo could be on the cards. Over 2.5 Goals should be the way forward here.
BTTS
Tottenham upset the odds when claiming a 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season. Will we get another BTTS No outcome when the sides meet on Sunday? It feels unlikely considering that both sides have looked defensively shaky in recent weeks. City conceded twice at Old Trafford and it could have been a lot more considering that Manchester United had three goals chalked off.
There was also the 3-1 reverse at Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League. The Norwegian side took full advantage of City's shortcomings, even if the signing of Marc Guehi should instantly improve a defence which is the reason why the Cityzens trail Arsenal by four points right now.
Interestingly, both Premier League clashes between the pair last season finished up with a BTTS No outcome. City claimed a 1-0 success roughly twelve months ago when an early Erling Haaland goal settled the affair. That came after Spurs somehow found a way to claim a 4-0 success at the Etihad Stadium.
Two of the three encounters during the 2023-24 season also saw BTTS No happen, so let's not be too certain that BTTS Yes will definitely happen here.
First Goalscorer
Erling Haaland has scored twenty Premier League goals this season. Across twenty-three games, this is solid return although they have dried up in recent months. At the time of writing, the strike against Brighton on 7 January is the only time that the Norwegian has found the net across nine matches. It's therefore worth swerving the forward when it comes to the scorer betting market.
Antoine Semenyo is a different matter. The Ghanaian has scored seven goals across his previous ten matches in all competitions. The player has looked lively since arriving at the Etihad Stadium and has already found the net on three occasions since making the switch from Bournemouth.
Rayan Cherki could be a good alternative and the Frenchman is playing an increasingly more prominent role for the Cityzens. He scored at St James' Park in the League Cup and was also on target in Norway when bagging what turned out to be the consolation strike.
Tottenham's best chance of scoring might be from a set piece, with Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero both getting on the scoresheet at Turf Moor. The central defenders will always be a big presence from corners, with Dominic Solanke hoping to kickstart his season.
