Germany appear to have turned a corner in time for Euro 2024. After a difficult 2023 which saw defeats occur against Colombia, Japan, Turkey and Austria, there was a big improvement in the New Year, with victories coming against France, Netherlands and Greece before that thumping 5-1 win against Scotland.
The host nation look like a difficult team to beat, with Julian Nagelsmann having transformed the fortunes of a Germany side who have strength in all departments. Manuel Neuer is a reassuring presence in goal in front of Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah, while Toni Kroos is fresh from winning the Champions League with Real Madrid.
Depending on how results have gone, it might be that the two teams are happy enough with a draw and an opportunity to rest players ahead of the knockout stage. The Swiss don’t tend to lose many matches, with Murat Yakin’s side boasting a five-match unbeaten run going into their recent clash against Scotland.
The biggest weakness in the Switzerland ranks is the lack of firepower, with Breel Embolo badly short of match action and it might be that Kwadwo Duah is given the opportunity to lead the line. However, there is midfield steel thanks to Granit Xhaka and Michael Aebischer, with the latter creating two of the goals against Hungary.
