Dortmund v Borussia Monchengladbach betting tips

There’s little doubt that the clash at the Westfalenstadion represents the most attractive match when it comes to the first round of 2020/21 German Bundesliga matches, with last year’s runners-up in the standings clashing with a team who also qualified for the Champions League by landing fourth place.

At the time of writing, Jadon Sancho remains a Dortmund player and Lucien Favre’s team are fairly strong favourites to get off to a winning start on Saturday 19 September, with the bookies generally going 4/7 about a team who will somehow try to close the game on Bayern Munich this season.

Can Dortmund Win This Season’s Bundesliga?

Borussia Dortmund are regarded as the only team that can realistically get close to Bayern Munich in the standings, although they are a best price 13/2 to topple a team who were not only kings of Germany last season but also conquered Europe in the Champions League.

Erling Haaland looks set to kick on from an excellent half a season in a yellow shirt, although Jadon Sancho has been linked with a move to Manchester United over the past few months and there were defensive issues which ultimately cost Dortmund in the run-in last time out.

Interestingly, there wasn’t much difference between Dortmund’s home and away form last time out and there were seven games at home where they failed to win.

Can Borussia Monchengladbach Get a Positive Outcome?

Borussia Monchengladbach are clearly one of the leading teams in Germany and it was no fluke that they landed fourth place in the overall standings, with this making them a Champions League side and they’ll want to remain in those leading positions.

Marco Rose has done an excellent job in charge and we’re thinking they are a big price to get something from this Bundesliga opener, with the opening round of matches often throwing up some unpredictable outcomes and we certainly don’t think that Dortmund are a banker bet.

The visitors avoided defeat in eleven of their seventeen away games last season and ended the campaign fairly strongly to make sure they finished ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, with three consecutive victories occurring after a slender 2-1 defeat away to Bayern Munich.

What Are the Best Bets for This Match?

We really think this match will be closer than the odds suggest and like the idea of backing Borussia Monchengladbach with a one-goal start on the Asian Handicap which means that they can lose by a single goal and we would get our money back.

We do think both sides will adopt an attacking approach and we’ll plump for both teams to score along with Over 3.5 Goals which is a shade of odds-against.
