RB Leipzig v Bayern Munich Match Result
Bayern Munich are predictably favourites to win this weekend encounter. After all, the Bavarian side have been the strongest team in Germany this term. Having missed out to a Bayer Leverkusen team who went unbeaten last season, it’s been business as usual for Vincent Kompany’s side who are eight points clear of Bayer Leverkusen with three games remaining.
Bayern are regarded as having a 62.5% chance of success at the Red Bull Arena. They have won ten of their fifteen games on the road this term and lost just one. However, there have been four draws and that is a red flag when it comes to regarding them as banker material. Similarly, this is hardly a must-win clash considering that a draw will be enough to be crowned champions.
Naturally, the visitors will be going for a victory in a bid to get the job done, although they have had a few stutters this term. There was the Champions League quarter final defeat suffered at the hands of Inter where they lost 2-1 at the Allianz Arena before drawing 2-2 at the San Siro. There has also been a 2-2 home draw against Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker.
More recently, there have been some convincing Bayern wins. There was a 4-0 success away to Heidenheim and that came before a 3-0 success against Mainz. Much depends on how Leipzig recover from a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt, with this coming after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Holstein Kiel.
Previously to this, there were high-scoring wins over Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg, with Leipzig able to score three goals in each of these encounters. We are leaning towards a draw in this game as the home side look to steady the ship.
Goals Under/Over
It’s little surprise that the bookmakers are anticipating Over 2.5 Goals. The Bundesliga betting sites reckon there’s a 72% chance of three goals or more being scored. There have been fifty-two goals notched in the space of fifteen away Bayern Munich games, with a massive sixty-seven goals having been pilfered in the space of sixteen home encounters.
There have been forty-five goals scored in fifteen Leipzig home encounters, so this is an average of three. Four of the previous five games involving this side have seen the net bulge at least three times and we know that Bayern will want to go on the attack. The last seven games in all competitions for the champions-elect have seen three goals or more.
Perhaps it could even be worth pushing the boat out and going for Over 3.5 Goals instead. This is a more backable price and requires four to be scored. We think there’s a reasonable chance that this will happen based on the stats.
BTTS
When the teams met at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich produced fireworks. On Friday 20 December, we saw Jamal Musiala score the opening goal inside a minute before Benjamin Sesko equalised a minute later. However, Vincent Kompany’s side were then able to stretch their legs and score four more unanswered goals to claim a 5-1 victory.
That highlights the scoring power that Bayern have in their ranks, especially as there was five different scorers on that occasion. They were able to have nine shots on target and it’s always something of a surprise when the league leaders fail to find the net in a game. The BTTS Yes odds reflect that this is a strong likelihood.
It might be worth combining BTTS Yes with a match outcome. So if you think that Bayern will end up proving too strong and end up crowned as champions, then you could combine an away win with the above selection. We actually like the idea of a high-scoring draw and the 2-2 scoreline could be worth a play.
First Goalscorer
Strangely, Harry Kane was not one of the five scorers against Leipzig in the reverse fixture. However, there’s no doubting the striker’s credentials in front of goal. The former Tottenham forward has now passed the forty-goal mark and he was recently on target against Inter and Heidenheim. He will be out to make history and fire his team to a Bundesliga success this term.
In the previous encounter, it was Leroy Sane who broke the deadlock and the former Manchester City man ended a run of five games without a goal. Michael Olise has had a maiden season to remember and he was also on the scoresheet against Mainz, with the former Crystal Palace player having recently scored for France against Croatia.
Kingsley Coman could be another option and the Frenchman was able to find the net against Stuttgart and Heidenheim, although perhaps the first goal will come from Leipzig. Benjamin Sesko has certainly been a predator in front of goal this season and the former Salzburg player has been able to score three times in the previous five appearances.
