Paris Saint-Germain v Aston Villa Betting Markets

Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions of Europe for the second season running when defeating Arsenal in the 2026 Champions League final. They are top dogs of the continent and now participate in this traditional curtain-raiser which they'll be keen to win. PSG's odds of 1.70 for the ninety-minute outcome imply that the bookies think they have a roughly 60% chance of landing a victory against Aston Villa.

They're a much shorter 1.40 to lift the trophy either through normal time or penalties, although manager Luis Enrique may not field his strongest team for this clash. Stars such as Fabian Ruiz, Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Achraf Hakimi played a lot of World Cup football in the summer and this game might come too early.

We know that PSG have plenty of strength in depth, with Willian Pancho, Nuno Mendes, Warren Zaire-Emery, Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratkhelia all likely to line up at the Red Bull Arena. They could end up proving too strong for an Aston Villa side who are adjusting to life without some key players.

Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans have departed after big money moves to Chelsea and Manchester United, with Unai Emery also likely to see Lucas Digne and potentially Ezri Konsa departing. However, the manager has recruited Alejandro Garnacho, Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes and has the knowhow when it comes to big European games.

It should be noted that the clash between PSG and Tottenham twelve months ago ended level, with Spurs racing into a two-goal lead before two late strikes from Paris saw the tie go to a shootout where the latter were able to claim this trophy on spot kicks.

Goals Under/Over

The bookies are split on whether the 2026 Super Cup match will be Over or Under 2.5 Goals. We know that Paris Saint-Germain have traditionally been a free-scoring side who will create chances at will. However, it's probably worth holding back from placing any goal-related wagers until we know the two teams who are going to take to the pitch.

Aston Villa are renowned for playing free-flowing football, although Unai Emery will be in no mood to leave his team defensively open. It's worth noting that Tottenham played a relative blinder twelve months ago to take a 2-0 lead and were good value for that advantage until being pegged back.

We do suspect that Over 2.5 Goals is the value bet for what is essentially a friendly game. Both teams will be bedding in new players ahead of the new campaign and there will be plenty of quality attacking players on view.

BTTS

We don't have any team news yet when it comes to the 2026 Super Cup although we're happy to consider a BTTS Yes bet on this clash. It's a showpiece event where both teams will look to play without too much fear, with the underdogs aiming to catch Paris Saint-Germain cold. Ollie Watkins is likely to lead the line after being underused for England during the World Cup, with Johan Manzambi also potentially getting a chance to shine.

PSG very rarely fail to find the net during a match of football. They only managed to score once against Arsenal in the Champions League final and their goal came from the penalty spot, although it's likely that they'll have joy in front of goal here. They demonstrated their attacking prowess in particular against Bayern Munich when putting five past the German champions.

A bet on Paris Saint-Germain to win and both teams to score could be the way forward. It's often a wager that pays out when they come up against tougher opponents. The ambition for Enrique's side is always to outscore the opposition. We may even see Lucas Digne appearing for the Ligue 1 side after recently making the switch from Villa.

First Goalscorer

Both teams will look to field relatively strong sides. Aston Villa's first match of the domestic season occurs just a few days after this game, so Unai Emery will want to get his best players on the pitch. Ollie Watkins managed to find the net twenty-three times last term and he was especially prolific towards the end of the previous campaign. That included two against Liverpool in May.

With no Morgan Rogers in the team, perhaps Johan Manzambi can step up and shine for his new team. He certainly looked the part for Switzerland in the World Cup. Then there is John McGinn who often appears at the right time to find the net for his club and country.

We're interested to see what sort of team Paris Saint-Germain field. Perhaps 2025 Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele will operate in the central role and we're almost certain to see Khvicha Kvaratskhelia featuring on the left flank. The Georgian will be well-rested after not playing in the World Cup, with Desire Doue, Warren Zaire-Emery and Bradley Barcola all vying for a spot on the left flank.
