Denmark v Greece Match Result
Denmark are going to go off at short odds for this World Cup qualifier. Goals from Mikkel Damsgaard, Andreas Christensen and Rasmus Hojlund helped them to a facile 3-0 victory in Athens on 8 September, with the team finding their scoring touch after previously being held to a goalless draw at Parken Stadium.
It’s fair to assume that Brian Riemer’s side can land another clean sheet and you could combine a Denmark win along with BTTS No in search of better odds. Alternatively, you might consider the Scandinavian side on the Asian Handicap if you think that the Danes can win by a comfortable margin.
Back in March, Denmark were highly competitive against Portugal in the Nations League quarter finals and landed a 1-0 home victory in Copenhagen before eventually losing 5-3 on aggregate in Lisbon. Since then, there have been wins over Northern Ireland and Lithuania. They’re now bidding to claim four consecutive clean sheets in this clash.
As for the Greeks, they were flying before that 3-0 home reverse against Denmark. In the Nations League play-off, they bounced back from a 1-0 home defeat against Scotland to claim a 3-0 success in Glasgow. There were subsequently wins against Slovakia, Bulgaria and Belarus to really strut their stuff.
However, that 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture will have been a confidence denter. It’s hard to make too strong a case for the visitors considering most of the bright performances have come on home soil. They did win 2-1 away to England back in October 2024 although it was a time where the Three Lions were in transition and the players were very much in club mode.
Goals Under/Over
At the time of writing, Greece’s previous five games have seen the goal tally go over the 2.5 goal line. The Greeks themselves have covered the line in the first four of those clashes before drawing a blank against the Danes. However, the latter were able to score three. Therefore, the trend is very much for three goals being scored in their games and they might have to go in search of goals.
If a draw isn’t too good for the Greeks, we may expect an open game. On the flip side, Denmark are strong defensively. They have stopped Scotland and Greece in their tracks thus far. Andreas Christensen, Jannik Vestergaard and Joachim Andersen make a strong defensive wall in front of Kasper Schmeichel even if the midfield and attacking units are somewhat functional. However, Jonas Wind and Rasmus Hojlund are sharp shooters who can bolster the goal tally.
BTTS
There’s no guarantee of BTTS Yes happening in Denmark games. The clash against Scotland on 5 September didn’t feature any goals. The 3-0 win over Greece was a bloodless affair for the Scandinavian side. Therefore, the favourites will feel confident that they can shut out the Greeks for a second time and control the match.
There’s also the face that the Danes edged Portugal in the Nations League by a single goal and we’ve already suggested a Denmark win along with a clean sheet. However, Greece are unpredictable and were previously full of goals before drawing a blank against the Scandinavian side.
Sixteen goals were scored by the Greeks in the space of four games. The fact that they came against Scotland, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Belarus might indicate lower-class opposition. However, the Slovakians recently beat Germany so perhaps we can’t discount the possibility that the visitors will also be among the goals here.
Georgios Masouras and Vangelis Pavlidis are experienced forwards who can offer a lively threat up top and much depends on whether they can create chances in the attacking third.
First Goalscorer
Rasmus Hojlund has made a successful start to his loan spell at Napoli following a disappointing time at Manchester United. The 22-year-old is likely to be leading the line in this game and racked up the third goal of the game against the Greeks a couple of months ago.
Christian Eriksen continues to captain the team and the 33-year-old now plies his trade at Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga. His goal record is impressive for his country, with 46 goals notched thus far and the former Tottenham and Manchester United player will want to hit the 50-goal mark for his country.
Joakim Mæhle is a defender who has scored eleven times for his country and he’s another Wolfsburg player who can get on the scoresheet. Georgios Masouras and Vangelis Pavlidis probably represent the best chance of finding the net for the Greeks, with Christos Tzolis having been among the goals for his country recently.
Watch out for Mika Biereth who is a relative newcomer to international football. The Monaco forward has a goal on the board already and the youngster might be given the chance to shine in this clash.
