the premier league may have made a huge splash on its return last weekend, but there’s a lot more drama to come. there are quite a few big matches this weekend, as the title contenders go through their paces once again. with plenty of live games to come, we’ve previewed four of the biggest matches from this weekend, picking out a few betting tips for you to take a look at. all the best betting odds are available via our live odds comparison too.
red devils likely to steamroll swans
manchester united kicked off the season with a brilliant win over west ham, and they are away to swansea next. there’s certainly room for them to establish their dominance at the top of the table in the next couple of weeks, as they look to hold off a challenge from any of the league’s top six. with a trip to a side who weren’t far off the drop last term, we see united winning here. they come in to this one priced at very fair odds of 4/11 with coral.
the red devils looked brilliantly compact in their opener, and this looks like a real jose mourinho defence. he’s slowly restored the side to their previous heights, and that makes things difficult for the hosts. swansea’s troubles are only enhanced by the fact that leading striker fernando llorente is out of this one. the impending loss of gylfi sigurdsson doesn’t help, it will leave the swans a little blunt in attack. we predict them losing this one to nil, so we’re backing united to win and keep a clean sheet at 23/20 with betvictor.
we also think it’s worth keeping romelu lukaku onside as a goalscorer here, given how he started his united career. three goals in his first two competitive games is impressive, and this is the kind of match in which he’s likely to strike. he’s evens with betfair to score here, which is the best value going on the belgian.
can gunners shake hoodoo at stoke?
arsenal needed a late show to topple leicester at home, and now they face a trip to stoke city. the potters always seem to have the edge over the gunners, but that seems to be changing. the last few elements of the tony pulis stoke side are dying out, and they are now looking considerably more lightweight. have they gone too far?
not only do stoke lack the steel and physicality of old, but they don’t really have any creative spark following the loss of marko arnautovic. while they got a brilliant sum for the inconsistent forward, they are now lacking in attack, which makes us doubt them against an arsenal side who have added a brute in defence and a lethal finisher up top. the gunners are 3/4 with ladbrokes, and we think that’s a very fair price given how stoke seem to have fallen behind in recent years.
huddersfield looking for second win against relegation rivals
the opening game on sunday puts two promoted sides up against each other, with both enjoying very different starts. newcastle were reminded of the difficulties of this level, losing 2-0 at home to spurs. huddersfield were 3-0 winners at crystal palace last week, and now they’re ready for their first premier league home game. the way they started was energetic and exciting, while gloom seems to have settled in around st james’ park after a difficult summer for the club. they don’t have enough up front to compete in this division, and the terriers could exploit that.
the unfashionable town can take advantage of their reputation, with sides unlikely to really take them seriously in the opening stages. we think that goes for newcastle, who seem to think they’re back where they belong despite struggling in the transfer market and failing to really make a significant signing so far. we see plenty of value on the hosts here, who are priced at betting odds of 23/17 with unibet. that seems too big to ignore, with the home side’s pressing game likely to trouble a few visitors this season.
shaky chelsea are tottenham’s perfect opponents
chelsea’s incredible collapse against burnley last weekend must have started a panic at stamford bridge. their awful title defence in 2015/16 is still fresh, and there are signs that this season could go in that direction. their lack of signings leaves them without much needed depth, especially as they’ve kicked off their campaign with a selection crisis.
the blues sailed to the title last term after their injury free campaign, but two red cards in their opener and they’re now struggling to piece a team together. tottenham must be lapping that up, as this is dominating all talk of spurs’ awful record at wembley. the blues seem to be handing their rivals a win on a plate at the national stadium, which could kick tottenham’s season off in a big way.
we think the best value of the weekend is tottenham to win at evens with bet365. given how they both started, the hosts should really be odds on.
