Bayern Munich were the 2020 winners of the UEFA Champions League under Hansi Flick and it was actually Thomas Tuchel who was in the opposition dugout on that occasion. The German saw his Paris Saint-Germain side come close, although he now has the chance to repeat Flick’s success with the Bavarian outfit who are among the outright favourites.
There is plenty to like about a Bayern Munich side who started their domestic campaign predictably strongly. We can read little into a 3-0 defeat by RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup considering that they swiftly went about their business by winning 4-0 at Werder Bremen, with a 3-1 victory over Augsburg before a 2-1 triumph away to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Bayern will be a popular Champions League accumulator selection and will also be well rested considering they play a Friday night clash against Bayer Leverkusen which gives them plenty of time to prepare, with Harry Kane returning from international duty in strong form after scoring against Scotland and he was a wanted man by Manchester United.
The Red Devils failed to secure Kane’s signature and they are the betting outsiders to get a victory here. Bruno Fernandes will skipper the team who have looked vulnerable on the road when losing 2-0 at Tottenham before a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal. However, the latter reverse was somewhat unfortunate and perhaps they can get something here.
