When is the Merseyside Derby?

The Premier League match between Everton and Liverpool was originally supposed to take place on Monday 16 March, although the UK lockdown means that this game now has to be rescheduled.

It is thought that the Merseyside derby will take place on either Saturday 20 June or Sunday 21 June depending on the fixture schedule. It is likely to take place at Goodison Park although there has also been the possibility of a neutral ground being discussed.

Can Liverpool Win the Title if They Beat Everton?

Liverpool are very close to winning the Premier League title, leading the way by twenty-five points although Manchester City will host Arsenal as their game in hand which could mean the gap is reduced to twenty-two with twenty-seven points still available.

Therefore, the Reds would only stand to land their first championship crown in thirty years if City wobble against the Gunners, although Everton will be out to make sure that their Merseyside rivals aren’t celebrating at the end of this clash and that celebrations are put on hold.

Can Everton Pull Off a Surprise Win?

Everton are a big price to win this Merseyside derby and it’s sure to be a strange atmosphere at Goodison Park which would normally be bouncing for a match such as this.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side experienced a heavy defeat at Chelsea in their last match before the lockdown although they have generally fared better under their Italian coach and we’d expect them give Liverpool a stern test.

Liverpool Off the Boil Before Lockdown

It was all going a bit Pete Tong for Liverpool in the weeks leading up to the lockdown. Despite bossing the Premier League all season, the Reds were beaten in the Champions League by Atletico Madrid and also suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at Watford.

There was also an FA Cup defeat at Chelsea although a weakened team was fielded for this particular match and the long enforced break should be a decent thing for Jurgen Klopp’s team who will have had time to regroup.

What Are the Best Bets for Everton v Liverpool?

We have to tread carefully when it comes to the first game back in the Premier League but it’s clear that Everton need to go out and put on a positive performance, while Liverpool will obviously go for the three points to put them on the brink of winning the title.

Therefore, we think both teams scoring looks to be a decent bet and we’d go a step further and back a Liverpool win as part of the equation. The Reds are a superior side and they will be able to play without being booed by the home supporters.
