For the third transfer window running, it appears that Mauricio Pochettino is cutting a frustrated figure. The Argentine saw Tanguy Ndombele arrive for £53.7 million from Lyon, although the only other signing is Jack Clarke and he’s been promptly loaned back out to Leeds for the season.

It’s clear that Pochettino wants further reinforcements, especially with Kieran Trippier having departed for Atletico Madrid, while Dele Alli is going to be out with injury for several weeks and that’s hardly ideal going into a brand new campaign.

There are also question marks when it comes to the future of Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen and there’s a developing feeling that all is not well at White Hart Lane, with chairman Daniel Levy remaining principled when it comes to spending money on players.

After all, Spurs baulked at paying over the odds when it came to signing Jack Grealish last term and the very midfielder will now be lining up against them on Saturday teatime, with the Aston Villa midfielder having helped the Midlands club land promotion.

Grealish will be surrounded by new team-mates considering that Villa have broken the proverbial bank to recruit new faces this summer, with Wesley Moraes expected to lead the line and Tom Heaton has recently arrived from Burnley.

Douglas Luiz is another addition to the squad after barely getting an opportunity to play at Manchester City, with manager Dean Smith now having to find the right blend when it comes to team selection although he might consider this a good time to be heading to north London.

After spending over £100 million this summer, expectation levels are high at Villa Park and that could see the team produce an attacking performance against a Spurs side who might still be looking to complete some summer business.

We’re not sure about betting on Tottenham to win this particular game although we like the odds-against quote that both teams find the net during the ninety minutes.

In essence, this is a bit of a free hit for the visiting team who will be supported by 3,000 noisy fans and the club will have been inspired by the way that Wolves took to last season’s Premier League like a duck to water.
