Paris Saint-Germain v Bayern Munich Match Result
There’s a 45% chance of a Paris Saint-Germain normal time win according to the Club World Cup betting sites. Some would regard that probability as far higher. However, the last sixteen encounter against Inter Miami was a really one-sided affair and Luis Enrique’s side were therefore able to conserve energy. Indeed, the European champions were four goals to the good by half-time and it was cruise control thereafter.
PSG were pretty much at full-strength in that encounter and Ballon d’Or betting favourite Ousmane Dembele made a cameo appearance off the bench. The forward managed thirty minutes in the second half and could well be ready to take his place in the starting line-up against a Bayern Munich side who were full of goals in the previous round.
Harry Kane was predictably at the double as the German champions raced away with a 4-2 victory and they were in control from the moment that they were two goals ahead within ten minutes. Leon Goretzka was able to score before half-time before Kane’s second strike took the game predictably away from their Brazilian opponents.
Bayern were somewhat suspect at times during the group stage. After a 10-0 mauling of Auckland City in their opening clash, they made harder work of beating Boca Juniors by a 2-1 scoreline which needed a late winner from Michael Olise. They were then beaten 1-0 by Benfica and there’s a nagging doubt that they could be defensively vulnerable against dangerous opponents.
On the flip side, PSG also lost during the group stage. They were defeated 1-0 by Botafogo in their middle group game although that did come after a 4-0 demolition of Atletico Madrid. That means there have been two thrashings already and it’s three if you consider the way in which they dismantled Inter in the Champions League final. Inter had previously beaten Bayern Munich and Barcelona over two legs.
Goals Under/Over
When two power-scoring teams go head to head, there are likely to be goals. Much as Bayern Munich are the betting outsiders for this clash, they will not want to put men behind the ball. The German side’s modus operandi is to attack and they’ve scored an incredible sixteen goals in the space of four Club World Cup games.
Obviously, Paris Saint-Germain are at the different end of the scale although the French side have scored ten times during the competition thus far. With Ousmane Dembele returning to the fore, it increases the chance of the goal tally increasing. We know that Luis Enrique’s side are always capable of racking up the goals in volume.
It could clearly descend into a high-scoring match and perhaps it’s worth pushing the boat out and going for Over 3.5 Goals rather than Over 2.5 Goals. It’s feasible that we could see a 3-1 or 3-2 win in favour of PSG.
BTTS
According to the Club World Cup bookmakers, there’s a roughly 66% chance of both teams scoring in this game. It could well be a popular Bet Builder selection which could be high on entertainment. This is a one-off knockout game and that involves going for the jugular. If one of these European heavyweights goes a goal down, then there’s a strong chance that they will launch everything on the attack.
The slight element of doubt is that both teams have been subjected to 1-0 defeats during the group stage. It might have been that they took their foot off the gas in those games. Also, Paris Saint-Germain have successfully shut down three of their four opponents at the Club World Cup thus far.
Bayern are generally heavy scorers even if we can’t read too much into that 10-0 drubbing against Auckland City. There are lots of players who can score for the German side and it’s interesting that Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala and Thomas Muller were among those players who were on the bench for the encounter against Flamengo. We think BTTS Yes looks a pretty solid bet when all is said and done.
First Goalscorer
Despite Bayern Munich being the outsiders to win the game, it’s Harry Kane that heads the First Goalscorer betting market. The England striker is such a reliable source of goals and will be out to make a statement against the European champions. Kane’s numbers are phenomenal and he continues to average a goal per game for the German side.
Perhaps chances will be scarce for the former Tottenham forward against opponents who like to have the ball. That man Ousmane Dembele has been nursing a hamstring injury until recently and the Frenchman could burst on to the scene, although perhaps Luis Enrique will put his trust in some of the other squad members instead.
It was Joao Neves who bagged a brace against Inter Miami in the last sixteen and the Portuguese could have the scoring touch from a deep-lying position. Incredibly, Achraf Hakimi was able to score yet again from full-back against the MLS side and the Moroccan has to rate as a positive contender to find the net here.
Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could also be a big threat from out wide on the left wing and we’re interested to see how he fares against Austrian Konrad Laimer. Desire Doue is another obvious candidate when it comes to scoring goals.
