PSG v Marseille Betting Tips

Paris Saint-Germain have had a few bumps in the road this season. The majority of these hiccups have come on the road considering the Ligue 1 champions have only won 60% of their ten away clashes. At home, they have been pretty strong to the extent that there have been eight wins and a draw across nine games at Parc des Princes.

Luis Enrique's side can focus on domestic matters for now and that includes Sunday's showdown with Marseille. There's always a great atmosphere when these two giants of French football lock horns, although the bookies think this will be a one-sided encounter. The odds imply that PSG have a 73% chance of landing a victory against their opponents.

Wins have been relatively scarce in recent weeks. A 1-1 Champions League draw came against Newcastle, with this coming after a slender 1-0 success at Auxerre, with the European champions having suffered a 2-1 away game against Sporting and some might not want to lump on Paris Saint-Germain to claim the spoils.

Marseille are not super consistent on the road. Roberto de Zerbi's side have only got a 50% success rate on the road this term, with the team recently landing a 2-2 draw away to Paris FC. They were cruising towards a victory before shipping two late goals and they came off firmly second best away to Club Brugge in a recent Champions League encounter.

It's hard to see how they're going to raise their game enough to cause PSG some problems, although Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang offer plenty of cut and thrust, with the attacking duo hoping to catch the opposition defence cold. A draw would be regarded as a positive outcome for the visitors and that could be worthy of consideration.

Goals Under/Over

Is Over 2.5 Goals an absolute banker? The odds would suggest this is the case, with 1.44 available that the net will bulge three times or more. There's a 70% chance of this happening, with odds of 2.10 proving more attractive when it comes to Over 3.5 Goals should you wish to move the line.

There have been twenty-six goals notched across nine PSG home matches, although only four of those were conceded by the champions. Looking through the recent matches at Parc des Princes, there was a 1-1 Champions League draw against Newcastle although the majority of encounters have seen at least three goals scored.

Marseille's ten away games have involved thirty goals. That's a neat average of three per clash on the road, with the previous seven matches all seeing the net bulge at least three times.

BTTS

BTTS Yes is a more backable price than Over 2.5 Goals. Odds of 1.61 means that many punters will be considering this selection in a football accumulator. When the teams met in the reverse fixture, the game ended in a 1-0 victory for Marseille. An early Marquinhos own goal was the vital moment, with De Zerbi's team then able to shut up shop and keep PSG out at the other end.

However, it doesn't inspire confidence that Marseille could only manage one shot on target during the ninety minutes. They have been able to score relatively freely in recent encounters, with a 9-0 cup success away to Bayeux coming before a splendid 5-2 success at Angers where the chances were created at will.

This is a different matter and blanks have been drawn in some tougher more recent fixtures. They came up short at home to a stubborn Liverpool side and there was also a failure to find the net away to Club Brugge. Marseille do average 1.9 goals per away game and the big question is whether they will find the net or not against a team virtually certain to do so.

First Goalscorer

Mason Greenwood is the top Ligue 1 scorer this season. The former Manchester United man has thirteen goals to his name, with the Marseille forward hoping to give his team a route back into the title race by finding the net here. After failing to find the net for three successive matches, the striker was on target at Paris FC.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also on the scoresheet and the well-travelled forward now has fourteen for the campaign. However, that striker last weekend was his first for Marseille since a Champions League brace against Newcastle United at the end of November. Perhaps Ethan Nwaneri can make an impact after the on-loan Arsenal forward notched against Lens.

Paris have lots of viable scoring options and Bradley Barcola actually leads the way in the Ligue 1 standings. In January, the young Frenchman was able to find the net against Lille and Auxerre, with Ousmane Dembele also starting to return to the goal trail. The current Ballon d'Or winner was recently able to score in three successive matches including a brace against Lille.

Desire Doue has five for the season and might start getting back on the scoresheet regularly, with Vitinha a decent outside chance to find the net and he did pilfer a Champions League hat-trick against Tottenham.
