La Liga Returns After the COVID-19 Pandemic

On Thursday 11 June, the 2019/20 La Liga football season will return in the form of a Seville derby, with Sevilla hosting Betis at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Nobody quite knows how everything will pan out despite the German Bundesliga restarting without a hitch, although the players have returned to full training and will now get a first taste of action since Sevilla having not played a match since a 2-2 draw at Atletico Madrid on 7 March.

Indeed, Los Palanganas are third in the table and they were six games unbeaten before the lockdown, although the former stat is more relevant considering that all form has been lost in such a big space of time.

The big question for many punters will be – should we back Sevilla to win at odds of 1.83 or should we oppose them in this derby clash?

Are Sevilla Banker Material for the Derby?

While Sevilla are third in La Liga table, they have won less than 50% of their matches this season. At home, they have managed just six wins in thirteen games which sends the alarm bells ringing.

They will be playing at home but home advantage isn’t necessarily a strong factor when it’s an empty stadium and we’ve seen in the Bundesliga that the number of home wins being recorded has dropped significantly.

We’ve also seen that there have been unexpected “form teams” in Germany after the restart and Betis are clearly no mugs despite only winning once on the road this term.

Indeed, they have drawn six times away from home and their last result before the lockdown was a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.

Sevilla Looking to Complete Double Over Betis

These teams met on Sunday 10 November which saw Sevilla claim a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from top scorer Lucas Ocampos and Luuk de Jong, while it wouldn’t surprise us if the same team overpowered their derby rivals in this clash.

However, that match was fairly close and it was actually Betis who shaded the match in terms of possession, while their five shots on target compared favourably to six shots from Sevilla.

What are the Best Bets for This Match?

We are not going to touch the Full-Time Result market when you consider that Sevilla are odds-on to win a post-lockdown match which also happens to be a derby.

If you look at the goals scored at home (19) compared to the amount conceded (13), then we are going to plump for Betis on the Asian Handicap market with a +0.5 goal start.

This means they can draw or win for a bet to profit and we think there’s enough unpredictability to make this a good shout.

Similarly, we like the idea of a 1-1 draw and will go down this route for our other bet. It’s a result which will be relatively satisfactory for both teams who will have the eyes of Spain watching them.
