after a thrilling first lot of uefa champions league last 16 second legs, the next four take place on tuesday and wednesday, 14th and 15th march.
bayern munich, real madrid, barcelona and borussia dortmund are all safely through, but who will join them in the last eight? juventus, sevilla, atletico madrid and manchester city hold first leg advantages, with porto, leicester city, bayer leverkusen and monaco looking to turn the ties around.
on tuesday, juve welcome porto to the juventus stadium with a 2-0 lead, whist leicester try and overturn a 2-1 loss when they welcome sevilla to the king power stadium. the following day, bayer leverkusen travel to atletico madrid 4-2 down, whereas monaco host manchester city, hoping to come back from a 5-3 scoreline.

we kick things off with the match in turin between massimiliano allegri’s juventus and nuno espirito santos’ porto. the old lady capitalised on alex telles’ first half red card at the estadio do dragao, with goals from marko pjaca and dani alves securing a comfortable 2-0 win, with two away goals to boot.
juve were the strong favourites with the bookies to make it through to the last eight at porto’s expense before a ball was kicked in portugal, they are now the overwhelming favourites to do so. looking at our live odds comparison, the best odds you can get on allegri’s troops to qualify are just 1/33 (bet365), whilst they are available at 4/6 with betfred to win on the night.
for those of you who think nuno’s men are capable of turning this one around, betfair are offering 16/1 for porto to go through. however, they are just 11/2 to win on the night. the draw, meanwhile, is tempting at 3/1 (betfred).
it may have taken juve some time to break down porto’s 10 men in the first leg, but they thoroughly deserved their solid win. we fancy the italian serie a leaders, who have won nine of their last 10 in all competitions, to ease to another victory over porto again. coral are offering 9/5 for the home side to win with a -1 goal handicap.
also on tuesday, leicester city, who are no longer with claudio ranieri of course, welcome sevilla to the king power stadium for the mouth-watering second leg. the spanish la liga outfit hold a slender 2-1 advantage, but jamie vardy’s late strike has given the foxes a genuine chance in this one.
a lot may have changed since the pair met in seville, but leicester will be buoyed by their first back-to-back premier league wins since april. craig shakespeare, who has taken over from ranieri on an interim basis, has done an excellent job steadying the english champions’ sinking ship.
a 1-0 home win would be enough to see leicester reach the quarter finals of europe’s elite competition, and bet365 are offering 5/2 for a foxes win on the night. the premier league outfit are available at 3/1 with coral to qualify. meanwhile, sevilla are available at 2/7 (betfred) to go through, and prices as the 23/20 favourites with betfair to win at the king power.
following those two league wins on the spin, the feel-good factor seems to be back at the home of the premier league champions. therefore, we predict leicester to get the job done in 90 minutes on tuesday. we feel there’s superb value in coral’s 13/2 for the midlands club to win with a -1 goal handicap next week.
moving on to wednesday’s games, first up is the encounter at the vicente calderon, as diego simeone’s atletico madrid welcome tayfun korkut’s bayer leverkusen to the spanish capital. after an excellent showing at the bayarena, atletico have this tie all but sewn up, winning 4-2 in germany.
since the first leg, leverkusen have sacked roger schmidt, following last weekend’s humiliating defeat at borussia dortmund. schmidt has been replaced by former hannover 96 and fc kaiserslautern manager korkut. betvictor are offering 22/5 for their new boss to make an instant impression and win on the night, and they are 25/1 with bet365 to progress.
however, it’s very difficult to see past a routine home win on this one. although los rojiblancos have not been quite as strong on their own patch as usual this season, they are still very hard to beat at the vicente calderon.
according to the odds comparison, the best price you can get on atletico to go through is just 1/50 with betfred. we fancy the home team to win on wednesday, with betfred’s 4/6 being your best odds.
after a thrilling first leg at the etihad stadium, pep guardiola’s manchester city take a 5-3 advantage to monaco for next week’s second leg. in a topsy-turvy game in manchester, pep and co will be delighted to be taking a two-goal lead to the principality of monaco.
city will fancy their chances of progressing, and are 1/5 with sky bet to do so, whilst you can get monaco at 4/1 with william hill. there’s not a lot to split the two on the night, though, as city are priced at 8/5 at betfred, with monaco coming in at 13/8 with the same firm.
after such a thrilling first leg, we’re hoping for more of the same between the pair on wednesday. with monaco needing to score at least twice to stand any chance of going through, we’re expecting a very open game in monaco.
despite the eventual scoreline, these two were pretty evenly matched in manchester. with that said, we’re predicting this one to end all square at the stade louis ii, which is available at the decent odds of 14/5 at sporting bet.
