Borussia Dortmund are a team who have become accustomed to playing second fiddle to Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga, with Marco Rose’s side once again looking upwards after thirteen games played. However, the good news for them is that there’s only a point to separate the two teams.

The other encouraging sign is that Dortmund have been 100% at the Westfalenstadion this season. They are averaging three goals per home game and that’s despite the fact that Jadon Sancho was sold to Manchester United last summer, while Erling Haaland has been absent through injury for much of the season.

Can Haaland Return to Beat Bayern?

The Norwegian striker came off the bench to find the net at Wolfsburg, with this being his nineteenth goal of the campaign despite missing over a month due to his injury. Rose will be delighted to have the forward back for this crunch clash and the team have certainly missed him recently.

Dortmund’s defence is certainly a concern based on the action of recent weeks. In addition to conceding that early opener against Wolfsburg, there was a 3-1 reverse away to Sporting in the Champions League and they also conceded three times to Ajax on home soil, so they will need to be stronger against a Bayern side who don’t need a second invitation to score.

However, there’s no denying that the attack is strong, with Donyell Malen having scored in each of his previous three games, while Julian Brandt will come up against several of his compatriots and has the capacity to make things happen.

Bayern Favourites to Win Der Klassiker

Bayern Munich will eye this clash as an opportunity to stretch clear at the top of the German Bundesliga. Julian Nagelsmann’s side haven’t always been foot perfect this season and there have been a couple of defeats, with Augsburg inflicting a particularly surprise defeat on this team although the Bavarian side have been in devastating form in the Champions League.

Robert Lewandowski doesn’t need any introduction and the Polish striker was unfortunate not to win the Ballon d’Or considering that the Bayern forward has been typically devastating in front of goal this season, with the forward hoping to continue his excellent scoring record against his former club.

Leroy Sane was the match winner against Arminia when Bayern Munich won 1-0 and we might expect a bigger scoreline when these sides meet. After all, the visitors have forty-two goals of their own this season and Nagelsmann’s team won’t be trying to soak up the home team’s attacking moves when they can force an agenda of their own.
