AC Milan v Inter Match Result
Milan are the rank outsiders to win this Serie A derby clash despite having home advantage at the San Siro Stadium. The Rossoneri will hope that their fans can cheer them to a victory and they do have the recent memory of coming from two goals down to win the Italian Super Cup when the teams clashed at the King Saud Stadium.
That was the only defeat that Inter have suffered in their previous eleven games and it’s easy to see why they’re strong favourites here. They actually boast better form away from home than on their own patch, with eight victories and two draws coming on the road and a massive twenty-nine goals being scored in these clashes.
We think that Inter can seize the initiative based on some of their recent performances, even if this game comes hard after facing Monaco in the Champions League. That will be on home soil, so there should be no issues with recovery time ahead of a clash which could have a strong bearing on whether they pip Napoli and Atalanta to the Scudetto.
As for Milan, it’s not been the desired season for the Rossoneri although they are faring well in the Champions League, having won five of their seven clashes to ensure a safe progress to the knockout stage of the competition. There’s also the fact that they have only lost one of their last eleven games in all competitions, with that being a 2-0 reverse at the hands of Juventus.
The draw price could be the one worth backing for this reason. Milan were able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat when triumphing 3-2 against Parma last weekend thanks to two late goals, with that giving them the confidence to get a positive result here and dent Inter’s title hopes.
Goals Under/Over
The bookies can’t split the Overs and Unders when it comes to the 2.5 goals line. It’s hardly a surprise considering that there’s always the potential for it to be a cagey encounter when these rivals meet. It’s a fixture that neither team wants to lose and it would be little surprise if we got to half-time with the scoreline goalless.
Even that 3-2 Italian Super Cup victory enjoyed by Milan could distort the picture considering that this was a one-off winner-takes-all clash in Saudi Arabia, whereas this game comes as part of a more hectic schedule and the Under 2.5 Goals quote covers a 1-0 and 2-0 winning scoreline to either side as well as the 0-0 and 1-1 draw.
Although Milan had that dramatic 3-2 win over Parma, that had been preceded by two Under 2.5 Goals matches, with that 2-0 reverse at Juventus being followed by a 1-0 triumph over Girona in the Champions League. However, they do have defensive shortcomings which could be exposed.
BTTS
The BTTS Yes outcome is likely to happen according to the bookmakers. We can see both sides scoring considering that Internazionale need to keep winning if they are to land this season’s Scudetto. They have been full of goals on the road and, while this is effectively their home ground, they do seem to prosper when taking advantage of teams being forced to attack.
Interestingly, the previous four Milan derbies have seen BTTS Yes happen as an outcome. Previously to the Super Cup game, Milan were able to claim a 2-1 victory over Inter and they will now be hoping to complete the hat-trick and boost their hopes of making the top four this season to continue participating in the Champions League.
In the previous season, it was Inter who twice triumphed and this suggests that BTTS Yes could happen. We wouldn’t be against the idea of a high-scoring draw along with BTTS Yes and it might well be that we see a 2-2 game between teams who will be going for a victory for different reasons.
First Goalscorer
There’s plenty of interest in the First Goalscorer market when it comes to the Milan derby and Marcus Thuram could end up being the match winner. The French forward is among the top scorers in Serie A this season with thirteen goals and he was back on the scoresheet against Empoli on 19 January.
Denzel Dumfries is an attacking wing-back who was among the four scorers that bagged recently against Lecce and the Dutchman could be worthy of consideration at a bigger price, while Lautaro Martinez has now scored in four consecutive games at the time of writing and the Argentine can notch in a game of this importance.
Milan have scored thirty-two goals this season, although none of their players have managed more than a handful. Christian Pulisic is on penalty duties for the Rossoneri and the American could be the best pick for the home side, while Rafael Leao has bagged a couple of recent goals and the Portuguese could end up proving a handful for the opposition.
