Inter v Lazio Match Result
The stakes are very high when Inter Milan square off against Lazio on Sunday night. In itself, this is a big Serie A fixture featuring two of the biggest clubs in Italy. Throw in the fact that the home side are battling it out with Napoli to win the Scudetto. Add into the mix the fact that the visitors want to get a positive result in their quest to qualify for the Champions League.
The bookies make Inter a 62% chance that they claim a win in this game. It’s been a long season for Simone Inzaghi’s side who have somehow made their way to the Champions League final at the expense of Bayern Munich and Barcelona. However, they are the outsiders to win the showdown against PSG and the same applies to the Serie A title.
Inter have won thirteen of their eighteen games at the San Siro this term, with the team having recovered their domestic form in recent weeks. Just days after the euphoria of that incredible Champions League semi-final success against Barca, they were able to produce a professional performance to claim three points away to Torino.
This came after a slender victory at home against Verona, although there had previously been three bumps in the road when experiencing successive losses against Bologna, Milan and Roma. Perhaps Lazio could be capable of pulling off a shock win this weekend.
The Rome side have clocked up plenty of victories on the road this term, with Marco Baroni aiming for a win in this game. Since losing 5-0 away to Bologna in the middle of March, Lazio haven’t experienced a domestic defeat although they did exit the Europa League in a surprising fashion when beaten in the quarter final by Bodo/Glimt.
Goals Under/Over
The Serie A betting sites make it slightly more likely that we’ll see Over 2.5 Goals compared to Under 2.5 Goals. The thinking from the bookmakers is that both sides will want to get on the front foot in their quest to land a victory. A draw is certainly going to hand Napoli the title if Inter fluff their lines, with Lazio in the mix with Juventus, Roma and Bologna for fourth spot.
However, Inter games haven’t been setting things alight domestically despite that zany high-scoring double header with Barcelona. The previous four Serie A games involving the champions featured two goals or less. Before that 2-0 win away to Torino, there was previously three 1-0 scorelines, while Lazio also haven’t been involved in many recent high-scoring encounters. The only game that has recently gone over the 2.5 line is a 2-2 draw with Parma.
BTTS
The Serie A betting sites think that there’s a similar chance of BTTS Yes and BTTS No happening. The case for the latter is simply looking at the trends and the majority of recent Inter and Lazio games have seen this happen. There’s also the fact that Inter taking the lead could see them aim to shut down the game and grind out a victory to nil. This selection is available to back if you think that this can happen.
The two teams have met previously this season and there has been a win to nil for Inter on both occasions. Will it be third time running that the champions win and BTTS No? The first instance saw Inter register an astonishing 6-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico in December. It was a demolition job featuring six different scorers.
Then the sides met in the Coppa Italia and it was a different story. Despite Inter’s 2-0 win, the goals were their only shots on target, with Lazio having six on target despite failing to find the net. Lazio have also managed to score in their previous six encounters in all competitions and will surely create chances if they are prepared to commit men forward.
First Goalscorer
Marcus Thuram is getting ever closer to notching twenty goals in all competitions. The French striker should be in dangerous areas of the pitch against Lazio, with goals recently coming against Parma and Barcelona. However, perhaps team-mate Lautaro Martinez is the man more in form, with the Argentine actually in contention for the Ballon d’Or.
The striker was able to score in three consecutive matches against Bayern Munich (twice) and Cagliari before recently returning to the scoresheet against Barca, with the lead players actually getting a rest during that clash against Torino. That included Denzel Dumfries who has shown himself to be one of the best attacking full-backs once again this season and the Dutchman is worthy of consideration.
Lazio might have some joy in the form of their on-loan attacker from Salernitana, with Boulaye Dia having found the net in recent encounters. He has found a scoring streak which has led to three goals in the space of five encounters, with the 28-year-old offering unpredictability which has led to some smart strikes against Empoli and Genoa.
