Can Atalanta Claim Another Top Four Spot in Serie A?

Atalanta were a brilliant team to watch last season. La Dea scored nearly 100 goals during their 2019-20 Serie A campaign and their final tally of 98 was comfortably more than any other team in the division.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side managed to blow opposing sides away on a regular basis and ended up banking 78 points from their 38 matches to qualify for the Champions League for a second season running, although the big question is whether they can maintain this excellent form.

Atalanta went deep in the Champions League before being narrowly beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the last sixteen, with Mario Pasalic having been signed from Chelsea along with Aleksey Miranchuk. We can expect more fireworks from Gasperini’s side as the manager doesn’t tend to compromise his attacking principles.

Will Lazio Challenge for Serie A Scudetto This Season?

It’s crazy to think that Lazio only finished five points behind eventual champions Juventus last season considering that the Rome side actually had poor post-lockdown form, with Simone Inzhagi’s side experiencing a run of five Serie A matches where they collected just one point.

Previously to that, Lazio looked like genuine title contenders and it will be interesting to see if they can be that competitive once again, with the team actually scoring more goals than Juve and conceding less goals, so they aren’t a million miles away from challenging.

Much depends on whether Ciro Immobile can score anything like the thirty-five goals he managed last term to help Lazio achieve great heights, with the Italian striker comfortably the leading scorer in the division and there’s little reason to suggest his goal rate will slow down.

What Do The Bookies Expect to Happen?

This will be only the second game of the season for both teams due to previously being involved in European competition last term. It will therefore be hard to judge them on the evidence of just one match, with Lazio clashing away to Cagliari, while Atalanta have a trip to Torino before heading to the Italian capital a few days later for this clash.

The bookies regard the teams as fairly evenly-matched, with Lazio made slight favourites at 13/8 on account of them being the home side and they did win fourteen of their nineteen matches at their own stadium last term, with this being second only to Juventus in terms of home form.

Atalanta lost just ONE away match in Serie A last season, with eleven wins and seven draws recorded, partly due to the lightning fast counter-attacking that became a hallmark of La Dea during the 2019-20 campaign. Despite this, you might be able to get odds of around 2/1 if you shop around.

The bookies trade around 4/7 that there are Over 2.5 Goals in the game and it’s easy to see an open contest between two teams who are probably not quite up to full fitness, although the opening rounds of English football yielded a huge number of goals.

What Are the Best Bets for This Match?

The two teams were involved in highly-entertaining matches last season and we don’t see why this clash should be any different. This fixture saw the game end in a 3-3 scoreline and we’re therefore going to take a punt on Over 3.5 Goals considering this was a regular occurrence in Atalanta matches last term.

Indeed, some might even consider going for Over 4.5 Goals although we won’t be too greedy and take the shorter price which just means we need four or more goals to be scored in order to profit.

We’re also fans of Atalanta and feel as though they could be worth backing on the Asian Handicap betting market off scratch. Their away record in Serie A last season was phenomenal and we see no reason why it shouldn’t continue.
