Roma v Lazio Match Result

The Full-Time Result odds indicates that the teams have a roughly equal chance of success and it’s easy to see why. Although Roma are fifteen points off Lazio, they are technically at home in this game and had a strong end to the calendar year, losing just one of their past six encounters in all competitions.

That came away to Como, although the other games saw them land four victories and a draw. Some of the home wins were emphatic, including a 4-1 success against Lecce, 3-0 European victory over Braga, a 4-1 Coppa Italia triumph against Sampdoria and a stonking 5-0 win against Parma.

It’s clear that Roma found the scoring touch before Christmas and Claudio Ranieri hopes that this continues into the New Year, with the bookmakers likely to have made Lazio favourites if this derby encounter was played a month ago, although the home side have clearly picked up.

Even so, Lazio have proven to be a better team this season and there’s little getting away from the fact that Marco Baroni’s side are only six points off the summit and still in with a chance of securing the Scudetto. They came desperately close to toppling league leaders Atalanta before Christmas, conceding a late equaliser in that contest.

They will take heart from the fact that they had more shots on target than La Dea, with the previous game seeing them claim a 2-1 win at Lecce and they were also successful away to Napoli and Ajax in December, with Lazio potentially the best bet of the two teams.

Despite Roma not drawing at home and Lazio not drawing away this season, wouldn’t it just be typical if this clash ended all square and perhaps the draw is the value bet and certainly has bigger odds than the home or away win.

Goals Under/Over

The forecast from the Serie A betting sites is that Under 2.5 Goals is slightly more likely that Over 2.5 Goals. Perhaps we will see a cagey encounter between two rivals who certainly don’t want to be losing a derby encounter, with Roma boasting a fairly stout defence at home this term and they’ve conceded just ten goals in nine games.

Similarly, while they average two per home clash, that number has risen dramatically after those emphatic wins in December. They will come up against a Lazio team who have conceded twelve times in their nine away clashes, with Marco Baroni wanting his team to continue their defensively solid ways which saw them nearly snuff out Atalanta.

Four of the previous six Roma clashes have seen Over 2.5 Goals happen and the same applies to four of the past Lazio matches in all competitions.

BTTS

Although the Under 2.5 Goals selection is trading as slight favourite, the same can’t be said when it comes to the BTTS No quote. After all, a 1-1 draw is a definite runner in a game such as this one and Lazio came desperately close to landing a 1-0 victory against Atalanta in their final game before Christmas, with La Dea scoring in the 88th minute.

In five of the previous seven Lazio games, we have seen BTTS Yes happen and the fourth-placed side only failed to score in that 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Inter. The visitors have scored fifteen times in their nine away clashes, with Roma also boasting a strong home record and they’ve really upped the ante in front of goal recently.

Ranieri’s men were somewhat shot-shy near the beginning of the campaign, although they have notched seventeen times in their previous six encounters and will be keen to find the net as they go on the front foot against their rivals. Their last result was a 1-1 draw at Milan where they had five shots on target although their opponents were able to register seven.

First Goalscorer

Valentin Castellanos needs one more goal to reach double figures for the season and the Lazio forward scored in recent games against Lecce and Parma. While it’s been two goals in the previous five encounters, there was no goal in the five matches beforehand and it might be worth looking elsewhere to seal better value.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was able to score against Atalanta recently and it’s clear that this attacking midfielder has an eye for goal. The 23-year-old has scored twice in the previous three encounters, with the player finding the net against Ajax in the Europa League. Veteran Pedro forward is also capable of scoring and he enjoyed a glut of goals earlier in the season.

No Roma forward has scored more than five goals in Serie A this season, although Artem Dovbyk is a quality striker and he bagged two goals against Sampdoria in a recent Coppa Italia clash. He was also on the scoresheet against Parma and the Ukrainian is the most likely player for the home side to find the net.
