We are counting down to Sunday night’s Madrid derby, with Real Madrid having enjoyed the Midas touch so far this season. The Spanish and European champions have continued where they left off after beating Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final, claiming seven consecutive victories in all competitions ahead of a match against Leipzig.

Karim Benzema might well return for this crunch clash after recently sustaining an injury in a European Cup tie against Celtic. The Frenchman is an enormous Ballon d’Or betting favourite and his availability would be a huge boost to a visiting side who have already landed wins away to Almeria, Celta Vigo and Espanyol.

However, Real Madrid have an implied probability of less than 40% when it comes to winning this clash according to the latest betting odds. They must quickly recover from a midweek clash against Leipzig to prepare for this clash, while Casemiro has now left for Manchester United although the Brazilian’s absence hasn’t yet been felt.

As for Atletico, they have a solid bank of ten points from five games played and they are certainly given a puncher’s chance by the bookmakers for this clash. They were beaten 2-0 at home to Villarreal in their first clash at the Metropolitano, although they have gone on to beat Porto in the Champions League before a 4-1 win against Celta Vigo in the league.

There is a lot of firepower in the ranks and Diego Simeone will have to decide on the best combination of forwards for this game. In the recent La Liga clash, Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann were only on the bench, with Alvaro Morata bidding to line up against his former club here.
