Getafe v Barcelona Match Result
Barcelona are overwhelming favourites to land a victory away to Getafe this weekend and it’s easy to see why. The Catalan side are one of the best in Europe and they enjoyed a superb 5-2 Super Cup win against Real Madrid recently, with Wojciech Szczesny’s red card mattering little to the overall scoreline.
Barca will look to continue racking up the wins and these are needed if they are to be crowned champions of Spain this term. There was a hiccup last month when the team suffered consecutive home defeats against Leganes and Atletico Madrid, although the season has largely been won where victories have been plentiful.
Hansi Flick’s side have won seven of their eleven matches on the road, with the two defeats being a 4-2 reverse away at Osasuna and a 1-0 loss at Sociedad. They have also been held to 2-2 draws away to Celta Vigo and Real Betis, with the defence not always watertight although they have generally proven capable of outscoring their opponents.
This will certainly be the case when they face a Getafe side who have been involved in some incredibly low-scoring games at home this term. They have only managed to win three of their ten clashes at the Estadio Coliseum, although they ran Barcelona close in the reverse fixture when the teams played in September and the scoreline finished 1-0 in favour of the favourites.
There was a superb victory at Las Palmas where Getafe’s low possession style enabled them to secure a victory, although it’s open to question as to whether they can stop a rampant Barcelona side who looked to be on top form when slaying Real Madrid and perhaps the best bet could be to back them to win to nil.
Goals Under/Over
We need to talk about Getafe’s home matches. In their ten games played in front of their own supporters, there have been a meagre thirteen goals scored. The home side have netted eight of them, with just five conceded and it’s clear that their best department is the defensive side of things.
This explains why Under 2.5 Goals is a realistic prospect, with the teams’ reverse fixture seeing Barcelona claim a 1-0 victory on that occasion. Barca had 78% possession on that occasion although they only registered four shots on target and it was simply Robert Lewandowski’s early goal that ended up separating the two sides.
Barca do like to cut loose on the road and they have racked up an impressive thirty-one goals while conceding fourteen times and that means forty-five goals have been scored in eleven away clashes. Therefore, it’s a question of whether the visitors can get among the goals or whether we’ll see a tight contest.
BTTS
The La Liga betting sites are not convinced that we’ll see both teams score in this clash. It’s hardly a surprise considering that Getafe have only scored thirteen goals in their nineteen games this term. They don’t tend to get involved in many high-scoring encounters and there was a string of ten clashes where BTTS No occurred before that 2-1 victory away to Las Palmas.
Indeed, there were four scorelines of 1-0 in consecutive games and a Barcelona win to nil could be worth chancing here. You can get around even money when it comes to the BTTS Yes option and the BTTS No pick is trading at a slightly shorter price. There’s something of a contradiction as Over 2.5 Goals is trading at shorter odds than Under 2.5 Goals.
The best way to look at this game could be that a Barcelona victory is likely to be achieved while keeping a clean sheet. Therefore, it could be worth considering the correct score market where the most likely scorelines range between 1-0 and 3-0. Ultimately, Barcelona need to get three points with a minimum of fuss and they are likely to be less expansive than their previous performance against Real Madrid.
First Goalscorer
Robert Lewandowski is the top scorer in La Liga and the striker has netted sixteen goals for Barcelona this season. The Pole has managed twenty-six in all competitions which is an average of one per game and he’s always the first port of call when considering the First Goalscorer market, although some might want to take a bigger price.
Raphinha scored twice in that Super Cup clash against Real Madrid, with the Brazilian scoring some notable goals on the road. A brace was notched away to Mallorca and there was also one netted away to Borussia Dortmund. We also saw Lamine Yamal on the scoresheet against Real Madrid, with this coming after scoring against Athletic Bilbao in the same competition.
This is a match where Getafe will try to keep things tight and perhaps No Goalscorer could be considered if they are able to weather the storm from a potentially early Barcelona onslaught. We know that the team will keep a deep defensive block and not show a huge amount of ambition going forwards.
